'Poison Heads' on Manchester Police Force Corruption in the 1970s is Released

English has now published this account of his tense first years in the Force. At the time of the IRA bombings he was a young Police Constable who was actually there and on the scene. His book reveals his easy-going approach to life, and his dismay at discovering the extent of force corruption and favouritism. He tells of cover-ups, brutality, self-serving and just plain stupidity. Casually and with humour, English begins with his early family life on the farm with his inspiring globe-trotting Gran, then shares anecdotes of his journey to Police Training and life in the Force. 'Now my 25-year pact with the Official Secrets Act is over, I can spill the beans about these 'Poison Heads' - the bent professionals of law and order I worked with every day,' states English. At a time when Britain was in turmoil, in the Thatcher Era of demonstrations and unrest, the city of Manchester was the site of violent demonstrations and bombings as well as crime. The Force worked side by side with the tough teams in SAS, TAG, MI5 and many others to maintain the peace. However, the Force itself was hampered by its legacy of corruption and internal politics. Is the situation much different today? News reports still detail police corruption and inquiries in many major cities, including Greater Manchester. Jonny English was recently interviewed on Talk Radio Europe by Bill Padley. Padley is an acclaimed and award-winning writer, producer and broadcaster who has interviewed a veritable 'who's who' of the UK's music industry. Talking with Jonny about the show 'Life on Mars', which featured the Greater Manchester Police Force at that time, Padley asked, 'Is that a fairly accurate summation of what it was like?' Jonny replied, 'Pretty much so.' But he emphasized that his book details true events, saying, 'So comparative-wise I've got the true story, and it's very open and very revealing.' By sharing tales of his early life before joining, English helps the reader to see through his eyes, making the view of the Force with its corruption and lies more vivid. 'In the Force my eyes were opened and I was to view many things in life quite differently - especially how people really are, the reality of death, the bliss of love and, most of all, what it takes to survive on the streets of a city,' said English, in his first in a series of three books. Approachable, humourous and direct, Jonny English is available for interviews and readings. 'Poison Heads' is the first of three fast-paced books outlining the author's true 'James Bond style' life and times. Bio: Jonny English was born in Rossendale, England, and grew up in the 1950's near Manchester, England in the heart of the Pennine Hills. He spent his early years on his Grandmother's farm, The Willows. He was educated at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School where he studied Art, Architecture, English Literature and European History. After joining the Greater Manchester Police Force as a Police Constable during the 1970's, he began to doubt the credibility of the Force and changed his career path. Today he works as a Senior Chief Estimator for a Corporation in Western Canada. During his life he has worked and travelled extensively throughout Europe, South America, Central America and Africa, where he personally delivered gifts for the Red Cross School Children and the poor in third world countries.
