Metro Detroit will be the center of the comedy universe as top names in sketch and improvisational comedy arrive for the eighth annual Detroit Improv Festival August 8-12. Headlined by Paul F. Tompkins, this year's festival will take place over four venues in Ferndale with more than 60 improv troupes from across the US and Canada performing in more than 20 shows, there will be something for everyone.

Planet Ant Theatre is reviving their original musical comedy, Yes We Can, with a new script and performing the production April 20th - May 12th at Ant Hall in Hamtramck. The original musical satire that tells intertwining tales of conspiracy and redemption. It follows the journey of Tammy, who is compelled to wrestle with the legal ramifications of the legislative vilification of cannabis, while chronicling the scheme of a powerful few who bamboozled America into outlawing a beloved, common crop for personal gain. "There are a lot of laughs to be had here. I don't yet have the empirical data to support this claim, but previous versions of this show have literally averaged a laugh a minute," said Shawn Handlon, co-writer and director of Yes Weed Can. "I expect this iteration to do the same, making the cost of your experience pennies per laugh." The hilarious hit from comedy giant The Second City returns to The Armory for another year of holiday jeer. The Second City's A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens, written by Emmy Award-winners Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort, begins preview performances on the U.S. Bank Main Stage on December 5; opens on December 8; and runs through December 31.

Dickensian purists and rabid followers, be warned in advance: this is not your typical 'A Christmas Carol'. There are skateboarding ghosts, celebrity origin stories, murderous plots and even rewrites of classic TV specials. But don't worry, your concerns will come from the audience. It's all part of the messy fun that is The Second City's TWIST YOUR DICKENS, currently playing at The Kennedy Center Theatre Lab.

The Second City's TWIST YOUR DICKENS is a hilarious spoof on all things Christmas, now in its final year at Portland Center Stage.

Twist Your Dickens is two hours of sketch comedy using Dickens's tale as a very rough basic structure but going off in dozens of different directions, from parodies of classic holiday TV specials (A Charlie Brown Christmas gets banged around) to rewrites of familiar carols.
