Pace University Celebrates Frederic Franklin With FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH, Now thru 6/1

After collaborations in 2012 and 2013 with an all-male cast, Tina Croll and Jamie Cunningham's The Men Dancers: From the Horse's Mouth make their return to New York today, May 30 through June 1 in honor of ballet great Frederic Franklin (1914-2013) in what would have been his centenary year. This celebration will take place at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts (3 Spruce Street, between Park Row and Gold Street) and is presented by Pace University.

Of all the great ballerinas, Tanaquil Le Clercq (1929-2000), known as 'Tanny,' was surely among the most transcendent. With a body unlike any before hers, she mesmerized viewers and choreographers alike as principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, and became a muse to both her husband George Balanchine and friend Jerome Robbins. Then, at age 27 and the height of her fame, Le Clercq was stricken with polio and paralyzed; she never danced again. Emmy- and Peabody-winning filmmaker Nancy Buirski (The Loving Story) brings Tanny's poignant story to the screen for the first time inAmerican Masters -- Tanaquil Le Clercq: Afternoon of a Faun, premiering nationally Friday, June 20, 10-11:30 p.m. on PBS (check local listings, New York metro area at 9 p.m. on THIRTEEN).

New York City Ballet hosts its 2014 Spring Gala tonight, May 8 at 7pm, featuring a special one-time-only program designed by NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the opening of the New York State Theater (now the David H. National Dance Institute's 2014 Gala Raises Over $1.2 Million; Features PIPPIN's Terrence Mann and Charlotte D'Amboise

National Dance Institute (NDI) honored renowned celebrity chef and restaurateur, Marcus Samuelsson, and philanthropists Barbara & Donald Tober last night, April 28, 2014. Terrence Mann and Charlotte d'Amboise of the Tony Award-winning musical "Pippin" emceed the event. The evening featured special performances by the children of National Dance Institute and Charles "Lil' Buck" Riley. The 2014 Annual Gala raised over $1.2 million for arts education at the Best Buy Theater (1515 Broadway, NYC).

Jacques d'Amboise to Be Honored at McCallum Theatre Choreography Festival, 11/9

The legendary choreographer Jacques d'Amboise, founder of the National Dance Institute, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the McCallum Theatre's 16th Annual Choreography Festival on Saturday, November 9th at 7pm. The Saturday night edition of the Choreography Festival also features eleven choreographers from across the nation who will compete for multiple awards and a paid engagement. An additional division of choreographers will be showcased on Sunday, November 10th at 4pm. The Choreography Festival this year is part of the first annual Palm Desert International Dance Festival, presented by the McCallum Theatre and the City of Palm Desert, and sponsored by Palm Springs Life magazine.

National Dance Institute Celebrates New Orleans at Symphony Space Today
