A surprisingly well-done, beautifully-paced production that feels like a truly fresh revival of something many of us have forever seared in our brains, this brand new, Jack O'Brien-helmed national tour of THE SOUND OF MUSIC---now on stage at Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through July 31---is a resplendent enterprise that is equal parts heartwarming nostalgia and entertaining, feel-good theater. Say what you will about how hokey and old-fashioned this show may be now... but I, for one, truly adored it. Besides its lovely visuals, this new revival has made a wonderful discovery in Kerstin Anderson, who plays a spunky, utterly charming version of everyone's favorite nun-turned-nanny Maria.

We live in the Alps during the summer, in a little chalet with a magnificent view of the Dolomites. There is something majestic about those snow-capped peaks. From our hotel in Denver, we can see a similar view of the Rockies. When I saw that SOUND OF MUSIC was playing at the Buell I just had to see the performance, which is part of the national tour. Oh, it was stunning! No one could ask for a better production!
Batter up! Just in time for the thick of baseball season comes the muscular musical about baseball super-fan Joe Boyd. Joe is transformed into a star slugger after he makes a deal with the devil and his sexy associate, Lola, for a chance to lead his home team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees.
Broadway In Chicago's engagement of THE SOUND OF MUSIC national tour makes for a pleasant and tuneful evening at this Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. Under the direction of Jack O'Brien, this production teems with a lively and joyful energy. In Kerstin Anderson, O'Brien has found a stunning anchor for the the leading role of Maria Rainer. Anderson, a current undergraduate studying Musical Theater at Pace University, exudes optimism and youthful vivacity onstage. And from the moment she begins singing the show's title song, it becomes evident that audiences are in good hands.
