Morgan Freeman has been selected by the American Film Institute's (AFI) Board of Trustees to receive the 39th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film, it was announced today by Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees.

Legendary underground entertainer-turned international cabaret sensation Joey Arias returns to Seattle's historic Triple Door on Tuesday, October 12 at 7:30pm, for an evening of homage to the great Billie Holiday, with all the bawdiness, elegance, and musical genius needed to properly channel the magic of 'Lady Day.' Joey Arias will be accompanied by his longtime pianist and creative co-conspirator, Eliot Douglass. Strange Fruit's return to Seattle is made possible by producer The Swedish Housewife Presents.

For the first time in Ogunquit Playhouse history, the season has been extended past Columbus Day weekend to October 24. Now is the perfect time to see the multi Tony Award winning Broadway musical Chicago, which is receiving rave reviews from the press for its 'stellar casting,' 'sensational staging' and 'killer choreography.' This record-breaking smash hit stars Ogunquit favorite Sally Struthers, as Matron 'Mama' Morton, keeper of the jailhouse keys and George Dvorsky as the slick lawyer, Billy Flynn. Chicago also stars Broadway veteran Angie Schworer as housewife turned murderess Roxie Hart and Broadway's Rachelle Rak as the seductive night club singer and double murderess, Velma Kelly. Tony-Award winner Paul Kreppel also stars as Amos (aka Mr. Cellophane), Roxie's husband who agrees to take the blame for her violent crime.

'Bonnie and Clyde' Director Arthur Penn Dies at 88

Arthur Penn, director of the 1967 landmark film, 'Bonnie and Clyde,' died yesterday September 28, a day after his 88th birthday. Those close to Penn say that he had been in bad health for the past year.

Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced complete casting for the New York premiere of AFTER THE REVOLUTION, a new play by Amy Herzog (Missed Connections, 508 at Ars Nova, Hungry at EST). Directed by Carolyn Cantor (Essential Self-Defense at PH, Pumpgirl, Orange Water Flower), the production will begin previews Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 PM. With an Opening Night set for Tuesday, November 9 at 7PM, the limited engagement will play through Sunday, November 28 at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street). AFTER THE REVOLUTION will be the second production of the theater company's 40th Anniversary Season.
