Disney Theatrical Group today, Monday 3 June 2013, announced that it would be holding exploratory open auditions in London for NEWSIES this month.

According to rumors and other reports by whatsonstage.com, producers of Disney's NEWSIES may be getting closer to finding a home in the West End late 2013 or early 2014. According to reporst, Disney is 'trying to secure either the Piccadilly or the Savoy theatres' for Spring 2014. A venue may be announced as early as next week.

Elvis Costello and Diana Krall seized the day on Sunday, May 20, at the hit Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, NEWSIES. Following the performance, the couple visited with the cast backstage. Check out a photo below!

The award was presented at a gala event at B.B. King on May 13 with four-time Tony Award-winning playwright and actor Harvey Fierstein, a frequent collaborator of Jerry Mitchell (and bookwriter of Kinky Boots), to emcee a tribute written by six-time Emmy Award winner Bruce Vilanch. Grammy Award-winner Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the music & lyrics for Kinky Boots, introduced a number from Kinky Boots included in the tribute. Last night, April 22, after arriving in New York for a three game series against the Mets, LA Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw and his wife, Ellen, attended the hit Broadway musical Newsies. Newsies, the hit Tony Award-winning musical celebrated its first year on Broadway with its entire creative team and Mauro Castano from Carlo's Bakery and TLC's 'Cake Boss,' who created a one of a kind cake for the special occasion.

Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, Newsies is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work. Newsies has just announced nationwaide auditions that start this weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Accoridng to the casting notice the show is seeking: males, 16-22, of all ethnicities, who are strong and technically trained dancers who also tap and sing well. Acrobatics/tumbling a plus. This past weekend, Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman of "So You Think You Can Dance" attended a performance of Newsies, the Tony Award winning new American musical, and visited with the cast backstage afterwards.
