The Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF) at Shepherd University has been informed by the American Theatre Critics Association that two of its 2010 plays - Lidless by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig and Breadcrumbs by Jennifer Haley - are under consideration for the prestigious ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award.

Next Theatre Company and Artistic Director Jason Southerland are thrilled to announce the 30th anniversary season, a year dedicated to plays that explore the myths that men and women create about their lives. The season opens in the fall with a world premiere presented at the National New Play Network's annual showcase. It continues with the regional premiere of a play Southerland first read when he met with Israeli playwright Motti Lerner (Pangs of the Messiah) in Tel Aviv earlier this year. The season comes to its climactic end with a pair of plays by Phyllis Nagy (pronounced 'Naij') who has captured wide acclaim in the United Kingdom but has been rarely produced in the U.S.

Studio 180, the company that has brought Toronto audiences the powerful and provocative plays Stuff Happens, The Laramie Project, Blackbird and The Arab-Israeli Cookbook, returns to the Berkeley Street Theatre Downstairs with a chilling and brilliant new drama. The Overwhelming, by J.T. Rogers, was named one of the top ten plays of the year by Time Magazine and Time Out New York in 2007, and will finally have its Canadian premiere from March 8 to April 3, 2010.

Jason Wells will be honored with the 2010 M. Elizabeth Osborn New Play Award, for his play Perfect Mendacity. Given by the American Theatre Critics Association, the award will be presented on March 27 at a ceremony at the Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville, KY.

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces that two-time Tony Award-nominee and film actress Kathleen Turner will star in the world premiere of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel. Directed by award-winning director David Esbjornson, this one-woman play based on the writings of the late political journalist Molly Ivins will take the slot previously slated for Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck. 'Red Hot Patriot' runs through April 18, 2010.
