PlayPenn, Philadelphia's professional new play development organization, will hold its fifth annual New Play Development Conference on July 10-July 26 at the Adrienne Theater (2030 Sansom Street) in Philadelphia. The Conference will feature two weeks of intensive work on six works-in-progress by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig (410 [Gone]); Mary Hamilton (We Three); Michael Hollinger (Ghost-Writer); Arden Kass (Appetite); John Orlock (The Specificity of Paradise); and J.T. Rogers (Blood and Gifts).

Canadian Stage Company Artistic Producer Martin Bragg announced today details regarding the 2009-2010 Season, marking his final season with the Company after 17 memorable years. The Tricycle Theatre will present The Great Game: Afghanistan from 17 April - 14 June 2009, a festival exploring Afghan culture and history through fifteen plays, a ten day film programme, Qawali Sham Sufi Group concert, ceramic and photographic exhibitions, discussion sessions, writers' talks and play readings (in conjunction with the National Theatre Studio). Previews for The Great Game: Afghanistan begin on 17 April with a press day on 24 April. In addition, the Tricycle's Education Department will produce a series of projects to support the Festival.
Film and theatre production company Jean Doumanian Productions (August: Osage County) will produce a musical based on Mitchell Zuckoff's acclaimed biography 'Ponzi's Scheme: The True Story of a Financial Legend.' Jean Doumanian Productions will be co-producing the musical with Michael Shulman and Craig Saavedra of Starry Night Entertainment. The two companies jointly acquired the rights to Zuckoff's book for both the stage and film.
