Arsht Center Presents City Theatre's SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVAL

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County presents City Theatre's 17th annual SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVAL, South Florida's fast and furiously fun program of the nation's hottest short plays, staged in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater (Ziff Ballet Opera House) from June 1-17, 2012. Under the new direction of Producing Artistic Director John Manzelli, the sizzling 17th season of the company's acclaimed SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVAL features fifteen performances of ten original short plays - some raucous, others innovative and poignant, but with the ultimate goal to make audiences laugh.

Actors' Playhouse Presents The World Premiere Of SEE JANE RUN!

Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre closes the 2010-2011 season with the world premiere of See Jane Run!, a new musical by Maribeth Graham and Dana P. Rowe. A multiple nominee and three-time recipient of the Carbonell Award, Graham has appeared in New York City Off-Broadway, many times at Actors' Playhouse and in most major South Florida regional theaters. Rowe, whose musical works include Zombie Prom, The Fix, and The Witches of Eastwick, has received Olivier Award nominations for The Fix and The Witches of Eastwick, both of which were produced in London's West End by Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre closes the successful 2010-2011 season with the world premiere of See Jane Run!, a new musical by Maribeth Graham and Dana P. Rowe. 'In The Next Room or The Vibrator Play' Southeastern Premiere

A comedy about marriage, intimacy, and electricity. At the dawn of the electrical age, a new medical device is developed to pacify 'hysterical' women, but it produces a shockingly different result. Nominated for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The NY Times called the play 'a sex comedy for adults with open hearts and minds.'

Southeastern Premiere - 'Adding Machine' A New Musical

This Award-Winning play, with music by Joshua Schmidt and a libretto by Jason Loewith and Joshua Schmidt, is adapted from The Adding Machine, written in 1923 by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Elmer Rice. Generally considered to be the first American Expressionist play, it is the story of a man who, after 25 years of service to his company, is replaced by a mechanical adding machine.

'Benefactors' At Palm Beach Dramaworks

Michael Frayn is an English playwright and novelist. He began as a reporter for The Guardian and The Observer after graduating college in 1957. His first novel, The Tin Men, was published in 1965 winning him his first of many accolades. His other award winning novels include Headlong, The Russian Interpreter and Spies. Considered to be Britain's finest translator of Anton Chekhov, he adapted four major plays along with several smaller plays for an evening called The Sneeze in London in 1988. Theatrically, Frayn is the playwright for such well received plays including Noises Off, Copenhagen, and Democracy, which won the Tony Award in 2000.

S. Florida's Carbonell Award Winners Announced

Touring productions of Monty Python's Spamalot and Lerner & Loewe's My Fair Lady evenly split eight of the 10 Stock Road Show Awards with Chita Rivera - The Dancer's Life and Camelot taking home one each.

Michael Frayn's Award Winning 'Benefactors'

'Benefactors' was first staged in London in 1984 winning the Olivier Award for Best New Play before its Broadway premiere in 1985. The original Broadway cast included Glenn Close, Mary Beth Hurt, Simon Jones and Sam Waterston and was nominated for two Tony Awards.
