Visible Fictions to Bring THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD to the Segerstrom, 11/8-9

Bringing in a new and surprising take on the legend of Robin Hood, Visible Fictions makes a stop at Segerstrom Center for the Arts with a production The Scotsman newspaper calls, "A timely contemporary twist on the story." Created by the company that brought the hit show Jason and the Argonauts to stages all over the world, The Adventures of Robin Hood breathes life into the outlaw we all know so well. Co-Commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Robin Hood comes to Samueli Theater on November 8 & 9 for three performances only.

World Premiere of Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca's ANTIGONA Set for UW World Series, 10/23-25

In October, the UW World Series will present the world premiere of Antigona, a new work by Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca. Hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances, Noche Flamenca is one of the most authentic flamenco companies in the world today, and Soledad Barrio is its star. Now, in a unique creative partnership, this remarkable company joins with acclaimed American theater director Lee Breuer to create a new work, Antigona, based on Sophocles' ancient Greek heroine. Combining live music, song, and dance, Noche Flamenca's Antigona will bring the fiery, expressive nature of flamenco to one of the world's great tragedies in an evening-length work that promises to be both gripping and intensely moving. The work is conceived and directed by Martin Santangelo with choreography by Soledad Barrio, consulting direction by Lee Breuer, and visual and mask design by Mary Frank.

Burning Coal Theatre Company and NC State Dance Program will present State of Dance, the world premieres of six new dance pieces created by six of the most exciting young, emergent dance makers in North Carolina November 6 - 8, 2014. The works will premiere at Burning Coal Theatre's Murphey School Auditorium, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 6 - 8 at 7:30pm. All tickets are $10 and are available at the door.

Bahar Behbahani, in collaboration with interactive artist, Negar Behbahani and musician, Maciek Schejbal, has created A Tide of a Memory-a participatory video installation exploring the power of bread through people's personal memories amid larger political and economic spheres of this universal sustenance. Today, September 13, the artists will premiere the project in Port Chester, New York. The collaborative project was created during their residency at MAPSpace: Miranda Arts Project Space. A Tide of a Memory is inspired by the history of the Tide Mill, a prolific grain mill operated in Rye, New York during the 18th century.

BAM 24 Hour Movie Marathon Raises Funds for Education Today

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) announces the first-ever BAM 24-Hour Movie Marathon benefiting BAM Education. Beginning at 8pm tonight, September 5, the Steinberg Screen at the BAM Harvey Theater will host this peer-to-peer fundraiser, inspired by traditional athletic fundraisers, challenging participants to binge watch classic and modern film favorites for a full 24 hours. With support from media partner New York magazine, funds raised will support BAM Education's in- and after-school programs, workshops, and internships, which serve over 30,000 K-12 students, teachers, and parents annually.
