Arena Stage to Produce RUINED In-the-Round, 4/22-6/5

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater will produce the first in-the-round staging of Ruined, the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama by Arena Stage Project Resident Lynn Nottage and directed by Resident Playwright Charles Randolph-Wright (Director of Arena Stage's Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies). Ruined is the stirring tale of Mama Nadi, a mother figure loosely based on Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children, who provides refuge for women affected by civil war ravaging the Democratic Republic of Congo. The production features an expanded company with cast members playing live music and additional ensemble roles featuring University of Maryland students. Ruined runs April 22-June 5, 2011 in the Fichandler Stage.

Sundance Institute announced today the acting company participating in its 2011 Theatre Lab held at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada from March 27-April 17. The Theatre Lab provides an atmosphere focused on artistic development and collaboration to develop and refine new theatre work with the support of full casts. Building upon the Sundance Institute's history of cultivating international exchange and dialogue, the 2011Theatre Lab projects and participants illustrate and explore the world's most innovative storytelling. A record number 89 artists began their Lab experience on World Theatre Day, bringing works from the United States, Mexico, and Tanzania to the three week workshop. Sundance Institute is grateful for the assistance of the Performing Arts Residency Program at The Banff Centre.

Hamingson) announced complete casting today for THE GREAT GAME: AFGHANISTAN, the acclaimed Tricycle Theatre Company production that will be presented in three parts in association with and at NYU Skirball Center from December 1 through December 19 with an official press opening on Tuesday, December 7. Directed by Nicolas Kent and Indhu Rubasingham, THE GREAT GAME: AFGHANISTAN is an ambitious political and theatrical event that was recently nominated for an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement.

This fall, Berkeley Repertory Theatre welcomes THE GREAT GAME: AFGHANISTAN, a sweeping cycle of short scripts by 12 top playwrights that caused a sensation in London. Presented in three parts - on different days or in one impassioned marathon - this unprecedented show explores Afghanistan over the last 150 years. Produced with the Tricycle Theatre and supported by the British Council, THE GREAT GAME makes its West Coast premiere in the Roda Theatre. This limited run begins October 22 and must end November 7. The executive producers for this exclusive two-week engagement are Bill Falik and Diana Cohen and the Strauch Kuhlanjian Family. Meanwhile, the Tricycle - which has gained renown in Britain for presenting plays that examine contemporary issues and investigate cultural diversity - is hosting Berkeley Rep's production of Tiny Kushner.
