Rachel Danielle Peterson is emerging as a unique, poetic voice of Appalachia. While regional narratives have traditionally been misrepresented or overlooked, she seeks to change that by writing candid work that mixes the compassion characteristic of a native with an unflinching honesty only possible with the critical distance of an ex-patriot.

An electrifying new musical has roared into the Ed Mirvish Theatre. BAT OUT OF HELL THE MUSICAL, based on Jim Steinman's critically acclaimed album, became one of the best-selling albums in history. Broadway World's Taylor Long sat down with four of the show's leads, Rob Fowler (Falco), Sharon Sexton (Sloane), Andrew Polec (Strat) and Christina Bennington (Raven) to talk about the journey of getting cast, rehearsing and bringing BAT OUT OF HELL THE MUSICAL to Toronto.
THE GRAPES OF WRATH message is family.... Sticking together through the good times and bad times. Family members die, people leave in the hard times, but it's family that keeps you going.
For a majority of my adult life I've assumed Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY was a show about the backstage workings of a company of actors a bit like NOISES OFF. It was only recently I learned that the show's title actually refers to an entirely different meaning of the word company. Thanks to the cast and crew of Just Off Broadway's fabulous production for clearing that up for me! While on the subject of confessions, I must also share that like the director Jason Crawford Samios-Uy mentioned in his note in the program, I've also never been a huge fan of Sondheim. I think he's equal parts creative genius and musical mastermind, however his shows have never appealed to me the way others have.
Calling all Parrotheads! This week the musical starting the music of Jimmy Buffett, ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE, opens at the Saenger Theatre! If you need to escape reality for a couple of hours, sink your toes in the sand, and breathe in that fresh island air, this is the show for you. As New Orleanians, we have sort of laid claim on Jimmy Buffett, although he is originally from Pascagoula, Mississippi, because over the course of his entire career he has brought his music and lifestyle straight to our hometown.

When today's headlines about Russia involve potential political meddling, corruption, and cover-up, it's nice to know that some things don't change and that you can laugh about them.
Soprano Erin Wall is one busy woman. Luckily, the talented (and funny!) singer had some time to sit down with BroadwayWorld's Taylor Long to talk about singing, joke about her composer boyfriends, and share some of the preparation involved in mounting a large-scale opera like ARABELLA.
The very first show I saw on Broadway was Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. To say that I was in awe would be an understatement. I fell in love with the show and the concept of musical theatre that day, and I've never looked back. Since then, I've been lucky enough to have seen dozens of shows, on and off Broadway, and I still get the same goosebumps each time the orchestra begins to play. There's just something special about the theatre.
Devon Mahon is a delightful actor whom I've seen in several performances, including at Brelby in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Unexpected and at B3 in Droppin' Johns. Earlier this week, I reviewed Brelby's production of his first full-lenghth play, Whisper Sweetly.
