On May 20, The Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs previewed an incredible new documentary, 'The Show Goes On', about the life and career of Broadway, Film and Television Icon Kaye Ballard to a 'more than full house'. In fact, two theatres were opened for the screening since demand far exceeded the number of seats in the main house. With her typically self-deprecating humor, Ms. Ballard proclaims herself 'The Greatest Star You Hardly Knew', and the beautifully constructed 90 minute film details her extraordinary accomplishments from Broadway's 'Carnival', 'The Golden Apple', 'Molly' and 'Pirates Of Penzance' to her stellar nightclub, film and television career including 'The Doris Day Show' and the beloved and iconic 'Mother's In Law' with Eve Arden. It highlights the extraordinary talents of Ms. Ballard and doesn't shy away from the disappointments and challenges along the way, featuring interviews with Woody Allen, Carol Channing, Hal Prince, Carol Burnett, Michael Feinstein, Joy Behar and more. Hal Prince boldly states 'if Kaye Ballard had been cast as the mother in 'Gypsy,' 'she would have made history.' I had the chance to visit with Ms. Ballard at her home on 'Kaye Ballard Lane' in Rancho Mirage (the home formerly owned by her friend and TV director, Desi Arnaz) to talk about the film and more. Here are a few excerpts from the conversation:

He studied classical voice for two years at Vanier College, has just finished his first year at Concordia University and next year, he heads off to Sheridan College in Toronto, renowned for its Musical Theatre Program. I had the chance to chat with Sam about his life leading into starring as Joseph is JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT with the Cote St-Luc Dramatic Society.
Meet Josh Strobl: it might not be a name you recognize now, but don't be surprised when you see it lighting up a marquee on Broadway in the next few years. That's not only because he is crazy talented and currently a student at University of Michigan (which can claim Pasek & Paul, Gavin Creel, and Darren Criss as alumni), but he was also the winner of the 2016 Best Performance by an Actor Jimmy Award.
Welcome to the 3rd Annual SLIME conference. Join 100 animals, seven young translators, scientists and suits, and fellow humans and step just slightly in the future... Seated amongst the delegates, you might hear an otter swimming down an aisle, a dolphin whistling at your elbow or a seabird over your shoulder: animals too have something to say. We come together to face an insatiable creature, SLIME, which, like facebookslime or googleslime, is taking over. Ask yourself, "who is coming to save us? "The answer might surprise you….
Many people know the story of Shrek, the lovable but fierce ogre who unwittingly becomes a hero to both fairy tale creatures and a princess, but many do not realize that the film was also made into a hilarious and heartwarming Broadway show in 2008 which was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won one. While Shrek the Musical has long since left Broadway, that has not stopped the show from becoming a favorite for many local theatres. In June The Aracoma Story, Inc. will be bringing this delightful play to the masses at Chief Logan State Park. Children, adults, and all those who believe in fairy tales are invited!

Director Aliza Moran calls Desdemona: A Play About a Handkerchief 'a fun, humorous, and poignant play. I fell in love with the play in college and am so excited to be able to direct it now. Paula Vogel takes three well-known female characters from Shakespeare's Othello (Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca) and breaks their Shakespearean mold by adding depth to their wants, needs, desires, and relationships in this modern language retelling; each character desires to break free from their present circumstances and live lives of their own making.'

Set in the offices of a New York City Fortune 500 company, four unsuspecting candidates embark on the most testing job interview of their lives. This taunt play - which premiered in Barcelona in 2003 to great critical acclaim, exposes the psychological depths people will go to in order to get what they want. The film version of Grease celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and many of us probably still picture John Travolta and Olivia Newton John when we think about this show. First appearing on stage in 1971, Grease enjoyed an eight-year run on Broadway, two revivals, and of course many community theatre and school performances over the years. I even performed in Grease at my high school during my junior year. This iconic musical, which follows the lives, loves, and heartbreaks of a group of high school students in the 1950s, takes the stage at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre May 3-June 17. Kathleen Carter, who portrays Rizzo, took a few moments to give us some insight into the production.
