Buran Theatre's MAMMOTH Premieres at The Brick This Weekend
by BWW News Desk
- May 9, 2015
MAMMOTH is a poetic and seriously funny new play about love and destruction, invoking the nostalgia of science and the hard data of the human heart. At a moment in time where we can envision our own extinction, this atmospheric new play by Adam R. Burnett will meditate upon why we destroy what we love - from the personal to the universal - and once vanished, what compels us to revive what we've lost.

BWW Reviews: Outstanding Production of THE WINSLOW BOY by The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis
by Chris Gibson
- Feb 17, 2015
The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis' artistic director, Steven Woolf, always has a knack for finding a classic, sometimes a neglected one, to present each season. This year it's Terence Rattigan's revered play THE WINSLOW BOY, which some will remember from various revivals and film versions (1948 & 1999), and which stands out as a dramatic piece fraught with injustice. It's a story, based on fact, that is still as relevant today as it was when it was written. A splendid cast and keenly sharpened direction combine to provide a very compelling piece of theatre.

BWW Reviews: THE WOODSMAN Ventures Into Enchanting Visual Storytelling in the Land of Oz
by Rachel Weinberg
- Jan 19, 2015
Like the blockbuster hit about a misunderstood green witch from the West, 'The Woodsman' at 59E59 Theaters introduces audiences to a lesser-known tale from the land of Oz. The production relies heavily on visual spectacle to tell the story of a young woodsman who falls in love with a slave girl, only to be punished by the Wicked Witch of the East, who bewitches his ax to befell his limbs one-by-one until all that remains is tin. Written by James Ortiz and co-directed by Ortiz and Claire Karpen (who is concurrently performing as Cinderella in another forest-centric production of 'Into the Woods' at Roundabout Theatre Company), 'The Woodsman' is a creative delight and distinctive in its use of non-verbal storytelling. The forest in these woods has a very natural feel, as the ensemble employs real branches on the stage. Yet Ortiz's incorporation of his original puppetry designs in the shows adds a mystical element.
