Johnny is certainly no stranger to the gay community as he has been a bartender at the historic Cherry Grove, Fire Island for over 52 years! At the ripe age of seventy-two years old, Johnny now has decided to take on his next challenge by making his theatre debut in My Big Gay Italian Funeral. When asked for a quote he simply said in his very funny way, 'Hello Lady, I'm so excited to make an appearance Off-Broadway! You would be bananas to miss it!'

What began as a limited season revival of My Big Gay Italian Wedding in 2012, has now become the Wedding and the Funeral running in rep till the end of June of 2014. My Big Gay Italian Wedding will play every Saturday at 8pm, and My Big Gay Italian Funeral will continue to play every Sunday at 7pm till June 29th, 2014. The funeral celebrates its one year anniversary with a special performance on Sunday June 1st, 2014.
Theatre at St. Clement's hosts the World Premiere of The Clearing, written by Jake Jeppson (Jerome Fellowship recipient) and directed by Josh Hecht (Drama Desk Award winner for Christine Jorgensen Reveals). The Clearing runs Off-Broadway now through February 9, 2014. Previews began January 15 for a January 19 opening. Tony Award winning Broadway Producer Hugh Hysell and Snapple Theater Center Owner/Manager, actress Catherine Russell have partnered to create a new theatre complex that will house 3 new first-class Off Broadway Theatres. This facility, presently titled The Theatre Center, will open in early 2014 at 601 Eighth Avenue (at 39th Street).

According to the New York Times, Broadway producer Hugh Hysell and actress Catherine Russell have just signed a 10-year lease for a building on Eighth Avenue and 39th Street that will offer more space for off Broadway works. The space (601 Eighth Avenue), which will be called the Theater Center, will include three theatres holding 99, 199, and 249 seats each.
