Irish Arts Center (IAC), the arts and cultural center dedicated to projecting a dynamic image of Ireland and Irish America for the 21st century, is proud to welcome back fiddle player Martin Hayes, "one of Ireland's great musical exports" (WNYC), for a week-long residency, April 25-29, to take place in and out of their current home on 51st Street. Each of these five evenings, many of which are curated by Hayes himself, will feature special guests from within and beyond the world of Irish traditional music, breaking barriers and taking audiences on an unforgettable artistic journey.
Parks Commissioner Veronica M. White today joined Congressman Joseph Crowley, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, Councilman Daniel Dromm, State Assembly Member Michael DenDekker, members of Community Board 3, the Jackson Heights Green Alliance and Jackson Heights Beautification Group, and Rory Staunton's family and friends to officially rename this park to honor of his memory.
PFLAG National honored Broadway stars Audra McDonald (THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS, PRIVATE PRACTICE) and Will Swenson (PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, HAIR) with the 2012 Straight for Equality in Entertainment Award, presented at the Fourth Annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala on April 2nd at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.
New York City saw a different side of its typically conservative Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, when he donned extensions and hippie garb on stage with Broadway's cast of Hair at the Inner Circle fundraiser dinner on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at The Hilton Hotel. Also joining the cast on stage in celebration were Jersey Shore cast members Snooki and Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino.
