The 41st annual NAACP Image Awards were held on Friday, February 26 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Amongst the winners were the film 'Precious' which picked up the award for Best Motion Picture, Morgan Freeman won for his role in 'Invictus' and Gabourney Sibide garnered Best Actress for her leading role in 'Precious'. 2009 promises to be a historical and exciting year filled with lots of hope, change and community service. To encourage ever greater levels of service throughout the country, MySpace and Katalyst Media, a production company co-founded by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, teamed up with celebrities to record their personal pledges of service.
Playwright, performer and activist Daniel Beaty has been creating a community-wide buzz with his acclaimed one-man show Emergency that has enabled the Geffen Playhouse to produce a special week-long extension aimed primarily at Title I public schools (three additional performances will also be added for the general public). The production will now close at 2pm on Sunday, June 1.
