Calpulli Mexican Dance Company brings its celebrated repertoire to Thalia Spanish Theatre for four weekends beginning April 25th through May 18th, 2014. The company of 12 dancers and core of musicians make their Thalia Spanish Theatre debut in a tribute to the joys and soul of Mexico. The program includes the debut of Flores Chiapanecas (Flowers from Chiapas) to be performed with live marimba accompaniment. The program captures the color, vivaciousness, and sense of new beginning that Spring-time delivers. Authentic costumes, passionate live music, and larger than life surprises are in store.

Aurora Theatre continues the 2013-2014 Harvel Lab Series with a Teatro del Sol production, Mariela in the Desert by Karen Zacarias. It is 1950 and artists Mariela and Jose are living an isolated existence in the desert of Northern Mexico, haunted by the ghost of their young son. Jose is very ill and Mariela sends a telegram to their daughter encouraging her to come home. Where once the walls were beautifully decorated, now only one painting remains, and it is shrouded in mystery. This play will be performed in Spanish with English supertitles. This production features an amazing cast including the stunning Blanca Aguero in the title role of Mariela and Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director Anthony P. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces the opening of the visual art exhibition Digital Hand. On view April 25-May 25, 2014, at the Trust's 709 Penn Gallery, the exhibition features works created by students participating in a course exploring the sculptural possibilities of digital fabrication taught by Tom Lauerman, assistant professor of art at the Penn State School of Visual Arts (SoVA). The exhibition, which is made possible by The Penn State Center Pittsburgh, opens during the Trust's Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District, April 25, 2014, 6-9 p.m.

Michael Pennington, two-time Olivier Award nominee, an artist of international stature and one of England's greatest classical actors, will play the title role in William Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear directed by Arin Arbus. For the second production in Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural season at its first permanent home, the new Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place in Brooklyn, Mr. Pennington leads a company of 22 actors. The Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC opens a window into the lives and struggles of Cubans of African descent in Without Masks: Contemporary Afro-Cuban Art, the upcoming exhibition making its North American premiere from May 2 to November 2, 2014. This remarkable exhibition has assembled a diverse group of 31 Cuban contemporary artists devoted to two fascinating themes: on the one hand an insight into contemporary Afro-Cuban cultural and religious traditions and, on the other, an intense dialogue on the complex racial issues affecting the country today.

Onstage Proposal Wows Crowd at HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER

Last week, the audience received a special surprise at Off-Broadway's comedy smash, HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER. At the point in the show where an unsuspecting audience member is brought up on stage for a brief tutorial on how to be a true New Yorker, the show's stars snared Tabitha Hernandez from the Bronx who was sitting in the front row. Before long, Tabitha's boyfriend Ruben Pacheco also jumped up to the stage, dropped to one knee and popped the question. He presented the ring, Tabitha happily accepted through her tears, and the entire audience roared with approval. Check out a video of the proposal below!
