The Circuit Playhouse to Present ASSASSINS

This provocative winner of five Tony Awards in 2004 brings to the stage a (shooting) gallery of some of history's most notorious players - the men and women who have attempted to kill American presidents. Set to a stylish Stephen Sondheim score, Assassins explores the underbelly of the American Dream through the lives, loves, and lunacy of nine American assassins including John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme.

Velocity's BRIDGE PROJECT 2015 to Kick Off Jan 30

4 of Seattle's most promising choreographers create 4 new works in the pressure cooker of just 4 weeks at Velocity's Bridge Project -- turning Velocity into an intense hive of urgency, excitement and dedication. This year's performance features exciting new work by emerging Seattle artists Adriana Hernandez, Coleman Pester, Hannah Simmons, and Dylan Ward.

MTV's EYE CANDY, Starring Victoria Justice, Debuts Tonight

MTV's new scripted thriller 'Eye Candy,' based on the best-selling novel of the same name by R.L. Stine, premieres tonight, Monday, January 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The hour-long, 10-episode drama centers on tech genius Lindy, played by Victoria Justice, a 21-year-old hacker with a gift for seeing clues and connections in the digital world that others can't.

DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE Opens 1/29 at Profile Theatre

PROFILE THEATRE presents Dead Man's Cell Phone by Sarah Ruhl. Performances run January 29 - February 15, 2015 on the Morrison Stage at Artists Repertory Theatre. Opening night is January 31st with previews on January 29th and 30th. Tickets are currently on sale at Profiletheatre.org. Dead Man's Cell Phone is the first production in Profile Theatre's 2015 Season dedicated to the works of playwright Sarah Ruhl.

NEWSIES Opens at Belk Theater Tonight

The Charlotte premiere of Disney's NEWSIES opens tonight, Tuesday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center for a limited engagement through Sunday, January 11. In Charlotte, NEWSIES will play Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Chicago History Museum to Host Free Performance of THE MLK PROJECT, 1/19

Writers Theatre opens its 9th annual tour of The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights, written by Yolanda Androzzo, directed by Jimmy McDermott and featuring Caren Blackmore. A special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day public performance will take place at 10:30am on January 19 at the Chicago History Museum, 1601 N Clark Street in Chicago. The kickoff event also includes a post-show community discussion. The event is free and open to the public, and audience members will also receive free museum admission for the remainder of the day.

BWW Reviews: Student Stars Brilliant in Inspiration Stage's SEUSSICAL JR.

In a sense, SEUSSICAL is formulaic pabulum. But like I formulaically say almost every review (after a eye-catching, misleading characterization of a piece - i.e. pabulum), that doesn't make it bad. It has very simple but charming themes about loyalty, being kind to all people despite difference in appearance, and staying true to yourself. It's no wonder that it's a youth theatre favorite.

DUTF 2015 Finalists Announced!

Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) has chosen 28 diverse finalists for its 13th Annual season to run on the Mainstage at HERE in SoHo from May 13-30, 2015. This year, DUTF attracted some of the best new and emerging playwrights who hail from all over the country. After several weeks of review by the DUTF team and Artistic Director Reg E. Gaines, Tony-nominated for Bring in da Noise Bring in da Funk, the finalists are:

Opera Parallele Presents a Special Pre-DEAD MAN WALKING Premiere Event, 1/21

In anticipation of its February 20-22 YBCA Theater premiere of a new production of Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking, award-winning contemporary opera company Opera Parallèle will present a special free public event Wednesday, January 21, 7-8:30 pm at Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco. The evening will feature a discussion of the opera—which has had 40 productions, spanning the globe, in its 15-year history—and its controversial topic, the death penalty, along with performances of excerpts from the opera and other works. Opera Parallèle founder and Artistic Director Nicole Paiement and Creative Director Brian Staufenbiel will host special guests including activist and author Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking, which chronicles her relationship with a Louisiana death-row inmate, and which was also made into a celebrated motion picture; composer Jake Heggie, mezzo-sopranos Frederica von Stade and Catherine Cook, sopranos Kristin Clayton and Nicolle Foland, and Roslyn Barak, cantor of Temple Emanu-El.
