This season's Early Music concerts began with a smashing sold-out performance by perennial favorites, The Tallis Scholars, with a beautiful program centered around the Magnificat. The series continues in 2012 with three more Early Music concerts, two in Midtown Manhattan at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin(affectionately known as Smoky Mary's) and one uptown at The American Academy of Arts & Letters.
On September 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 at 7:00 PM, Opera Omnia returns to Le Poisson Rouge to present Francesco Cavalli's Giasone, fully staged, in an English edition by Paul C. Echols (originally prepared for the Mannes Camerata in 1987).

This summer, Big Apple Baroque is mounting a fully staged, magnificently crafted production of Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen. Performances will take place June 14th, 16th, and 17th at the Kaye Playhouse, Hunter College. In order to make this as splendid a production as Purcell so richly deserves, BAB is reaching out for the first time in its history to solicit donations and is holding a special fundraising Gala Preview on Friday, April 1st at 7pm.

Long before the rushing in of springtime, Parthenia, a Consort of Viols, will paint the season of love's power and pain via 16th and 17th century French music set primarily to the poems of Pierre de Ronsard. Featuring soprano soloist Julianne Baird and renaissance violinist Robert Mealy, Parthenia will perform Les Amours de Mai on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, in Jorgensen's chamber music setting.
Brentwood Brass will perform under the direction of Dr. Robert Kidd, faculty member of The Cape Cod Conservatory. This quintet is comprised of Cape Cod professional musicians and academics dedicated to the multi-faceted world of brass quintet music. The group covers transcriptions and original compositions from the 16th-21st centuries ranging from popular to classical.
