Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, revived here by Ensemble OrQuesta as part of the Arcola Theatre’s Grimeborn season, is a highly controversial and disputed work of baroque opera which flips the script on contemporary morality.

Arcola Theatre today announced the full programme of productions in the 2021 Grimeborn Opera Festival, which is returning for its 14th year. Productions include 25 - 29 August Alcina, Music by George Friedrich Handel; 1- 4 September Hopes & Fears, Music by Claude Debussy and more.

West End musical THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS which recently ended its strictly limited summer season at the London Palladium has been filmed for cinematic, television and online releases.

Titus Andronicus is renowned for being Shakespeare's goriest revenge tragedy, as the body count piles up and blood fills the stage, the play poses questions about the nature of sexuality, family, class and the morality of revenge. For the RSC's forthcoming production as part of the Rome Season and directed by Blanche McIntyre, an innovative audience research project will be conducted in collaboration with Ipsos MORI to monitor the emotional engagement of a theatre and cinema audience. With the aim of exploring two questions: Does Shakespeare still shock? And, is the emotional engagement of watching a play live at the theatre the same or different to that of watching it live at the cinema?

The first footage of Angels in America - hailed by critics as one of the theatre shows of the year - has been released ahead of its broadcast in cinemas next month as part of National Theatre Live. Part 1 will be in cinemas on Thursday 20th July and Part 2 on Thursday 27th July. According to the New York Post, the National Theatre production of Angels in America might soon fly to Broadway. Michael Riedel writes: '"Angels" may well wind up at one of the nonprofits - Lincoln Center perhaps, or a limited run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where Lane starred in a fine revival of "The Iceman Cometh" several years ago.'

Bruce Norris' new translation of Bertolt Brecht's satirical masterpiece The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is directed by Simon Evans with design by Peter McKintosh. Lenny Henry will make his Donmar debut as Arturo Ui and is joined by Michael Pennington, who recently played the title role in King Lear at the Royal & Derngate Northampton, as Dogsborough.
