Paloma Herrera, Julie Kent and Xiomara Reyes, Principal Dancers with American Ballet Theatre, have announced their retirements from the Company at the conclusion of the 2015 Metropolitan Opera House season in New York City. “These three unique ballerinas have each made such distinctive contributions to ABT throughout the years,” Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie stated. “With them, an era of our history resides. Their remarkable careers will be three more reasons to celebrate our 75th Anniversary Season.” (more...)

Juilliard Dance's 2014-15 Season to Feature Works by Austin McCormick, Loni Landon & More

Juilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, opens its 2014-15 season in December 2014 with New Dances: Edition 2014 featuring four world premiere dances by innovative choreographers, Juilliard alumnus Austin McCormick (1st-Year Dancers); alumna Loni Landon (2nd-Year Dancers); Kate Weare (3rd-Year Dancers); and Larry Keigwin (4th-Year Dancers). Mr. Keigwin is returning to Juilliard where he already choreographed and premiered, in December 2008, Runaway, a large-scale piece that riffs on the high fashion runway scene, and in December 2009, Megalopolis. This month, Juilliard Dances Repertory presents repertory works by acclaimed choreographers Eliot Feld, Juilliard alumnus Lar Lubovitch, and Twyla Tharp. Juilliard dancers perform Baker's Dozen by Twyla Tharp; Concerto Six Twenty-Two by Lar Lubovitch; and The Jig is Up by Eliot Feld. All three dances were choreographed between 1979 and 1986, and Juilliard dancers have had the opportunity to learn the dances through intensive work with two of the choreographers - Eliot Feld and Lar Lubovitch - and with Juilliard alumna Shelley Washington, an original member of the cast of Twyla Tharp's work. Now in its third season, TrancenDanceGroup announces the fall performances of 'Unveiled Souls' at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center tonight, November 10th and the 11th, featuring the world premiere of company director/choreographer Gabriel Chajnik's Crescent and full, and G*D, a multimedia dance work in progress about a holocaust survivor. 'Unveiled Souls ' presents two microcosms of human frailty and hope, communicated through provocative and emotionally charged choreography that is sometimes poetic, sometimes edgy. Music ranges from an original score by musician and Grammy Award-winning producer Barry Goldstein commissioned for TrancenDanceGroup to pieces by Henryk Gorecky, Ernst Bloch, and others. (more...)
