Wales has a proud musical heritage, not least in the realm of musical theatre, with many of the West End's current and recent hit musicals filled with Welsh talent in lead roles

According to a report by Baz Bamigboye for UK Daily Mail, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is set to play the Donmar Theatre beginning February 11. Cast members include: David Flynn, Chris Carswell, Hayley Gallivan, Harry Hepple, Katherine Kingsley, Marisa Lawson, Iris Roberts and Steve Pemberton.

Grease celebrates its third electrifying Birthday this July with a new leading lady. The producers announced that Lauren Samuels will join the cast of the smash-hit musical on 26 July 2010. Making her West End debut, Lauren will star in the iconic role of 'Sandy' until 22 January 2011 at London's Piccadilly Theatre. Noel Sullivan will continue as 'Danny' and Siubhan Harrison will also join the show in the role of 'Rizzo'.

The eighth annual final of the Principality Building Society Welsh Young Musical Theatre Singer Of The Year contest was held at the Swansea Grand Theatre on Saturday February 20. The closely fought contest was adjudicated by an panel of judges consisting of eminent director and drama teacher Ken Caswell, vocal coach Tim Richards, Tim Rhys Evans (musical director of the internationally acclaimed male choir, Only Men Aloud, winners of BBC's Last Choir Standing) and Claire Hammacott (whose West End credits include Les Miserables and Christine in Phantom Of The Opera).

Spring Awakening will end performances at the Novello Theatre today, May 30th. The musical was originally set to run until October 31st, 2009, but has closed earlier than expected.

UK theatre websource WhatsOnStage.com is reporting that Spring Awakening has posted closing notices at the Novello Theatre.
