The finalists for the 2010 Principality Building Society Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year contest have been announced. Following a preliminary round which saw multiple performances of a very high standard on Saturday January 30, the following four singers were selected to contest the final: Lucy Maria Phillips, Michael Riseley, Amy Whittle and Aled Powys Williams.

Former winners of this prestigious title include Connie Fisher (winner of BBC's How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria and West End star of The Sound Of Music), David Thaxton (the current West End Enjolras in Les Miserables) and Hayley Gallivan (who played Marta in Spring Awakening both at the Lyric Hammersmith and at the Novello Theatre).

The Final of the contest will be held at the Swansea Grand Theatre on Saturday February 20 and will be accompanied by performances by the acclaimed Dunvant Male Choir, who are responsible for the inauguration of the contest in 2003 and its continued administration. The evening of fine harmonic choral deliveries of musical theatre songs combined with what promises to be a high standard of solo musical theatre performances should provide fans of music in general and musicals in particular with a feast of entertainment in the heart of South Wales, which has traditionally provided the West End with many of its finest musical theatre stars.
