Stage, television and film star Robert Sean Leonard will star as Henry Higgins in The Old Globe's 100th anniversary production of George Bernard Shaw's masterwork, Pygmalion. The Tony Award-winning actor last appeared on the Old Globe stage as Edgar in Jack O'Brien's renowned 1993 presentation of King Lear starring Hal Holbrook. Directed by Nicholas Martin (Broadway's Butley with Nathan Lane and Present Laughter with Victor Garber), Pygmalion will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Jan. 12 - Feb. 17, 2013. The Old Globe today announced its 2013 Summer Season. Adrian Noble will return for his fourth season as the Artistic Director of the Globe's Shakespeare Festival and direct Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice starring Festival veteran Miles Anderson. Noble will also direct Tom Stoppard's classic farce, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Presented in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, the Festival will also include the perennial favorite A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Summer Season will also feature N. Richard Nash's romantic comedy The Rainmaker and the San Diego Premiere of Double Indemnity, based on the classic novel by James M. Cain and adapted for the stage by David Pichette and R. Hamilton Wright. The Rainmaker will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre and Double Indemnity in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. The Board of Directors of The Old Globe today announced the appointment of Barry Edelstein as Artistic Director. A nationally-recognized director, producer, author and educator, Edelstein will work together with Managing Director Michael G. Murphy to lead San Diego's flagship arts institution. Both Edelstein and Murphy will report jointly to the Board of Directors. Currently the Director of The Public Theater's Shakespeare Initiative in New York City, Edelstein will assume the artistic directorship of The Old Globe on Nov. 1 and will reside full-time in San Diego in January 2013.

The Old Globe today announced that 2012 Globe Honors winner Nicolette Burton was one of three leading actress finalists at the National High School Musical Theater Awards/The Jimmy™ Awards, which were held on June 25 in New York City.
The winners of the 2012 Globe Honors, the annual competition recognizing excellence in high school theater, were announced on Monday, May 21 after the final round of competition was held on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Chase Fischer of Coronado School of the Arts and Nicolette Burton of Canyon Crest Academy won in the categories of Leading Actor and Actress in a High School Musical, respectively, and will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to participate in the National High School Musical Theater Awards/The Jimmy™ Awards competition to be held on June 25 at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. The other winners of this year's Globe Honors were Jonathan Edzant of Canyon Crest Academy and Kelly Prendergast of Grossmont High School (Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theatre), Patrick Gates of San Diego Virtual Schools and Sara Rose Carr of Canyon Crest Academy (Outstanding Achievement in Spoken Theatre) and Chad Mata of Coronado School of the Arts (Outstanding Achievement in Technical Theatre). This year's Globe Honors was presented in association with Broadway/San Diego - A Nederlander Presentation.
