Dusty Film and Animation Festival to Feature Several Free Events 5/4 -5/10

The 20th annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards will highlight over 100 films by students graduating from the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). The program includes screenings of short films, videos and animations; and an awards ceremony and gala with notable presenters from the film industry. Many of the screenings are FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, including 'Screenwriters Night,' a collaboration with The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, in which SVA graduating screenwriters will have selected scenes performed live by alumni from The Neighborhood Playhouse.

The 20th annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards will highlight over 100 films by students graduating from the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Kristy Cates, celebrated as the star of the mega smash Wicked for its Broadway and Touring runs, guests at Scott Nevins' Curtain Call directly following the video madness of Musical Mondays on February 9th at 11:30pm., The vocal wonder Cates will serve up a full set of Broadway's hottest tunes, 'blowing the roof off of Splash with one Diva turn after another' as the press notes state. Kristy Cates is best known for her roles in the original Broadway cast of Wicked (ensemble/Elphaba understudy). Kristy then went on to a year long run as Elphaba in the Chicago production of Wicked. She was most recently seen at Carnegie Hall in the ensemble of 'Jerry Springer the Opera' starring Harvey Keitel. Off Broadway/ Regional: Human Race Theatre (Stephen Schwartz's 'Snapshots'), Princess Ida, St. Louis MUNY, The Lucille Lortel White Barn Theatre , North Bay Opera, The Playhouse on the Green, The Eugene O'Neill Conference and the NY Fringe Festival, MANY readings of new works. NYC/Chicago concerts: Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, Joe's Pub, Laurie Beechman Theatre, and a sold out series 'An Evening with Kristy Cates' at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Chicago. Kristy is also a professional voiceover artist. She was honored to be a National Anthem soloist for the Chicago Bears, Bulls and White Sox. She recently concluded a production of a new musical UNBEATABLE at the Pheonix Theatre, in which she plays a woman battling cancer. The production is expected to open off Broadway at New World Stages this upcoming Spring. Get there early to grab a seat to watch these legendary musical numbers on the screens during Musical Monday's, and then sit tight as Kristy Cates performs live in person!

Whoopi Talks UK SISTER ACT: The Musical on 'The View'

She'll be among the producers of the show, and gave a preview of the production's poster artwork. Whoopi was visibly excited as she discussed the upcoming musical.

SISTER ACT: The Musical To Make UK Premiere at the London Palladium in '09

UK theatre website Whats On Stage is reporting that Sister Act: The Musical will receive its European premiere in the West End next year, opening June 2nd, 2009 at the London Palladium, the current home of The Sound of Music. Sister Act: The Musical will begin previews on May 7th, 2009.

Today Tony Taccone, artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, announced additional dates for two solo shows that he staged in Berkeley before launching them on tours across the continent. Danny Hoch's Taking Over had its world premiere at Berkeley Rep in January and hit it big in Montreal this July; next week it starts an All City Tour featuring free performances in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx in addition to previously announced dates in Manhattan and Los Angeles. Moreover, after a record-breaking run in Berkeley last winter, Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking careened through Hartford, San Jose, Santa Fe, and Washington, DC this summer; now it adds Seattle to a list of upcoming destinations that also includes Boston.

Broadways Biggest Surprise Hit 'XANADU' Premieres in Chicago

XANADU in Chicago will star Elizabeth Stanley as 'Kira' (played in the film version by Olivia Newton-John), Max Von Essen as 'Sonny,' Sharon Wilkins and Joanna Glushak as the evil Muses 'Melpomene' and 'Calliope,' respectively, and Larry Marshal as 'Danny' (played in the film version by Gene Kelly).
