School of Visual Arts (SVA) 20th annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards for 2009 - which highlighted over 100 films by students graduating from the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department, proudly bestowed the following individuals awards for their work in film and animation on Saturday, May 9, at an invite-only gala awards ceremony at the all-new SVA Theatre (333 W. 23rd Street).
From April 15 through May 11 the 21 actors, three directors and one playwright in the first class to earn their Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) since the school moved to Pace in the fall of 2006 are presenting the school?s noted Repertory Season. The school is the only MFA theatre program officially sanctioned by the Actors Studio, whose co-Presidents are Ellen Burstyn, Harvey Keitel and Al Pacino.

Kristy Cates is best known for her roles in the original Broadway cast of Wicked (ensemble/Elphaba understudy). Kristy then went on to a year long run as Elphaba in the Chicago production of Wicked. She was most recently seen at Carnegie Hall in the ensemble of 'Jerry Springer the Opera' starring Harvey Keitel. Off Broadway/ Regional: Human Race Theatre (Stephen Schwartz's 'Snapshots'), Princess Ida, St. Louis MUNY, The Lucille Lortel White Barn Theatre , North Bay Opera, The Playhouse on the Green, The Eugene O'Neill Conference and the NY Fringe Festival, MANY readings of new works. Whoopi Goldberg revealed a few hints about the upcoming musical adaptation of her movie hit, Sister Act on today's episode of The View. She'll be among the producers of the show, and gave a preview of the production's poster artwork. Whoopi was visibly excited as she discussed the upcoming musical.
UK theatre website Whats On Stage is reporting that Sister Act: The Musical will receive its European premiere in the West End next year, opening June 2nd, 2009 at the London Palladium, the current home of The Sound of Music. Sister Act: The Musical will begin previews on May 7th, 2009.
