BWW Review: Reboot's LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Will Eat Your Heart

Dear Readers, we're about to enter the realm of my favorite show of all time, that of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's musical masterpiece "Little Shop of Horrors". I tell you this in advance so you'll understand the gravitas of my critique of anyone attempting this particular show and I've seen many. I've seen touring productions, local productions both large and small, and even one production set in an actual skid row. I even managed to see a certain Encores production with a certain movie star and the original Audrey (sigh). And now comes Reboot Theatre Company with their affinity for non-traditional casting/staging/etc. Add into that the fact that they're performing this at the Slate theater where the stage is about the size of the full-grown plant and this could be a recipe for disaster. And while I may have had a technical qualm or two, what I also saw was a company that understands the show and a production that has more heart in one tentacle than some productions have in their whole plant.

Reboot Theatre Company Unleashes Genderqueer LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

After spending six months fundraising, Reboot Theatre Company is celebrating spring by unleashing the hysterically campy and delightfully dark cult classic LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS on the unsuspecting public. Award-winning director Harry Turpin (The Who's Tommy at SMT, Fly By Night) helms this floral fantasy with music direction by Joel Kurzynski (Fly By Night), running May 4-19, 2018 at Slate Theater (815 Seattle Blvd S). Tickets ($15-$25) are now on sale at rebootlittleshop.brownpapertickets.com  For more information, visit www.reboottheatre.org

Reboot Theatre Company Announces Launch of 'Reboot U'

Reboot Theatre Company celebrates a watershed year after mounting two successful productions, the Seattle premiere of the musical Fly By Night and the nation's first genderqueer production of Private Lives by Noel Coward. Reboot also qualified for non-profit status and secured a $500 grant through the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.

BWW Review: Reboot's FLY BY NIGHT Charms but Mires Itself in Repetition

With their second production, Reboot Theatre Company hopes to charm its audience with this sweet little tuner "rebooted" by the company with its gender bent casting. Unfortunately, as talented and likable as the cast is, the show fails on two very important levels. It's certainly not little at 2 hours and 40 minutes and the casting does nothing to add to the story or the tone except to dilute the story in some places.

Meet the Cast of the Seattle Premiere of FLY BY NIGHT

Following last year's award-winning inaugural production (Seattle's first all-female 1776), Reboot rides again with the Seattle premiere of the indie rock fable FLY BY NIGHT, hot off its acclaimed Off-Broadway run at Playwrights Horizons. Conceived by Kim Rosenstock (99 Ways to f**k a Swan, Tigers Be Still) and written by musician and Broadway actor Will Connolly (Once), award-winning playwright Michael Mitnick, and Rosenstock, FLY BY NIGHT explores the journey of love from all its delectable angles.

BWW Reviews: SMT's SWEET CHARITY Fails to Engage With Its Story

Cy Coleman, Dorothy Fields and Neil Simon's "Sweet Charity", currently playing at Seattle Musical Theatre, is not a perfect musical. There's plenty that it has going for it but it's loaded with plenty of extraneous things as well. The story is fairly depressing, the book is too wordy and there are some songs that just plain don't need to be there. So in order to get it to engage it has to be done just right. Well, unfortunately I still haven't seen a production that was there.

Seattle Musical Theatre's Artistic Director Roy Arauz Resigns

After seven months as Seattle Musical Theatre's Artistic Director, Roy Arauz has resigned his position. Arauz was voted into this volunteer position by the Seattle Musical Theatre Board of Directors in July of 2014 and saw the company through Man of La Mancha, The Rocky Horror Show, and Fiddler on the Roof, and was instrumental in assembling the production team for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, set to open in April 2015. During his tenure, he spearheaded and fundraised for a New Works Program at SMT, which will be a part of the 2015/2016 season. He is also the Founding Artistic Director of Arouet, a local company inspired by the work of Voltaire.

Seattle Musical Theatre to Present SWEET CHARITY

Seattle Musical Theatre invites Seattle to spend Valentine's month with SWEET CHARITY, the girl who wants to be loved. This Tony Award-winning musical follows the titular broad as she sings, dances, laughs, and cries her way through the harsh reality of Times Square, searching for The One. Even amongst a colorful array of characters, including her cynical trio of streetwise girlfriends, a phony evangelist, a list of unreliable suitors, the unflappable Charity knows in her heart that there's gotta be something better than this.
