Dance Against Cancer Raises $250,000 for American Cancer Society

The Sixth Annual Dance Against Cancer was held on Monday, April 25, 2016.  The event had over 500 guests in attendance and raised more than $250,000 for the American Cancer Society, which will fund lifesaving cancer research and support patient and family service programs like Hope Lodge New York City.

Dance Against Cancer Raises More Than $243,000 for American Cancer Society

The 5th Annual Dance Against Cancer was held on Monday, April 27, 2015.  The event had over 500 guests attend and raised more than $243,000 for the American Cancer Society that will benefit research initiatives and patient and family service programs.

Wendy Whelan Postpones RESTLESS CREATURE U.S. Tour

Following hip surgery that took place just one week after the August 14, 2013 premiere of her Restless Creature, Wendy Whelan, in consultation with her doctors, has concluded that her body needs more time to heal and that she must postpone her spring 2014 (March 16 – April 11) inaugural U.S. tour of the work. Rescheduled dates will be announced at a later time. See below for a list of postponed engagements. The UK premiere, presented by The Royal Opera House, will take place at the Linbury Studio Theatre in London as scheduled (July 22–26).

School of American Ballet's Workshop Benefit Raises Over $820,000

The School of American Ballet's Workshop Performance Benefit 2013 at SAB on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 honored Peter Martins' and Kay Mazzo's 30th Anniversary with the School and raised more than $820,000 for scholarships and school programs. The evening began with cocktails at 5:30pm, followed by the presentation of Mae L. Wien Awards for Outstanding Service to Mr. Martins and Ms. Mazzo respectively by Kate D. Levin, commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Sterling Hyltin, New York City Ballet Principal Dancer.

Kelli O'Hara to Perform with Seattle Men's Chorus, 11/27-28

For the 2010 Seattle Men's Chorus (SMC) Holiday Concert, Holiday Glee, the Chorus will take a few cues from the wildly popular TV series Glee. 'For over 30 years the gay choruses in particular have been doing what the show Glee is doing now,' said artistic director Dennis Coleman. 'This show has just made it popular. But, it does call attention to choral music and singing, and however that happens, it's wonderful!' SMC pays homage to Glee, but with a twist. The show's unofficial anthem, 'Don't Stop Believin' has been re-worked as a parody with holiday-themed lyrics and individual Chorus members will represent several of the main characters including Kurt, the openly gay student at McKinley High. Coleman continues, 'There's a lot of 'camp' to Glee, and camp is a gay art form. Everything about the show screams 'gay chorus!' The concert will be funny, but also serious. The Chorus will celebrate different American holiday traditions focusing on the music and style of Las Vegas, Nashville, Broadway, and the Southwest (especially Arizona). And SMC's beloved rendition of Silent Night and other traditional holiday tunes will not disappoint.
