Following on the heels of its wildly successful production of King Lear, The Antaeus Company will again offer Los Angeles audiences the chance to see two fully double-cast ensembles perform in its upcoming production of The Autumn Garden by Lillian Hellman.

Four gala openings of the fully double-cast production, two with each cast, take place October 28-31, with performances continuing through December 19 at Antaeus' interim home, Deaf West Theatre in the NoHo Arts District. Low-priced previews begin October 22.

Five screenplays with GLBT themes or characters have been named finalists in the first Great Gay Screenplay Contest sponsored by Pride Films and Plays, and will be performed as staged readings in the Great Gay Screenplay Weekend on November 20 and 21 at the Center on Halsted.

Reworking a classic story is not a new concept in the theatre world. Just ask the creators of Wicked or West Side Story. Taking something that audiences are already familiar with and turning it on its ear can be quite a task and is not without its challenges. First, there are the constant comparisons to the source material (or previous adaptations). Next, there is the daunting task to "reinvent" the plot and bring audiences on a fresh and new journey. But with the Alliance Theatre's premiere of Twist - an American Musical (a modern, American take on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist) they beat the odds and have created a magical tapestry of music, story and life that, even with a classic tale at its heart, feels like a something completely new.

THE OPEN BOOK's opening of its double bill production of MISTER JACK by MARVIN KAYE and the short one-act DON JUAN'S FINAL NIGHT by EDMOND ROSTAND has been rescheduled to open Thursday, August 12th at 8:15 pm. The production will run Thursdays - Saturdays at 8:15 pm and Sundays at 2:45 pm through August 29th.
