A new drama from writer-director Louis Viljoen will open at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre tonight. THE EMISSARY will star Emily Child and Andrew Laubscher, with performances of the 55-minute play taking place through 16 July.
The 51st Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards were presented at the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town on Sunday night in a ceremony that highlighted the theme of 'new beginnings'. With the main event taking place in the newly refurbished Baxter Theatre, this year's winners all received a newly designed medallion. THE PERVERT LAURA, a dark psycho-drama written and directed by the award-winning playwright Louis Viljoen will transfer to the Fugard Studio Theatre in Cape Town in May 2015 after a highly acclaimed debut at the historical Little Theatre in December last year.
You have to hand it to Louis Viljoen. The man is an honest-to-god real-as-they-come playwright, and he explores something new in every play he writes. His latest piece, THE PERVERT LAURA, is a taut psychological drama about a woman whose past manifests itself her present, driving her to face some dark truths and make some difficult choices.
Directed by Gregory Karvellas and performed by Emily Child, A CERTAIN LADY is based on the short stories of Dorothy Parker (with thanks to the NAACP for the use of Ms Parker's work). The show will run at Alexander Bar, beginning February 10, 2014.
