San Francisco, CA, February 26, 2015 – By popular demand, award-winning choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will stage encore performances of The Luminous Edge, their highly successful evening-length dance theater work that premiered in September, 2014. Premiere performances sold out in 2014 and the work made multiple Bay Area critics' top-choice lists for the year, making it one of the choreographers' most popular and successful works to date. The deeply expressive and theatrical work explores themes of transcendence, hope and rebirth and features six Garrett + Moulton dance soloists and an 18-dancer “movement choir”—a theatrical form also used by Garrett and Moulton in their 2009 and 2011 productions, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories and The Experience of Flight in Dreams. Performances of The Luminous Edge will be given Thursday-Saturday, July 9-11, at 8 PM and Sunday, July 12, at 3 PM, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, located at 701 Mission Street. Ashley Wheater, Artistic Director of The Joffrey Ballet, announces an epic 60th Anniversary Season of Celebration in 2015-16 including three World Premieres, the North American Premiere of Sylvia by John Neumeier, the Joffrey Premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Fool's Paradise, and the return of Frederick Ashton's lavish Cinderella. Notably, 2015 will mark the farewell season of Robert Joffrey's The Nutcracker. The Joffrey has commissioned Christopher Wheeldon, whose An American in Paris is Broadway-bound this spring, to re-envision a major new Nutcracker to receive its World Premiere here in December 2016.

Carnegie Hall presents pianist Leif Ove Andsnes leading the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from the keyboard in a two-night series of Beethoven's five piano concertos in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. On Monday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m., they perform Beethoven's Piano Concertos Nos. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 19; 3 in C Minor, Op. 37; and 4 in G Major, Op. 58. On Wednesday, February 25 at 8:00 p.m., they play Piano Concertos Nos. 1 in C Major, Op. 15; and 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 73, "Emperor."

Maestro Thierry Fischer and the Utah Symphony continue in their 2-year Mahler Symphony Cycle with a commanding performance of Mahler's 'Symphony No. 3' this weekend, February 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. in Abravanel Hall. Famed for being one of Mahler's most extensive works, 'Symphony No. 3' features the vocal talents of Utah-native mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford, the women of the Utah Symphony Chorus, and The Madeleine Choir School.

Alan Gilbert, music director of the New York Philharmonic, conducts Mozart's Don Giovanni with an internationally renowned cast led by Swedish baritone Peter Mattei, who is widely recognized as one of the world's foremost interpreters of the title role. South African soprano Elza van den Heever returns to the Met for the first time since her acclaimed debut two seasons ago as Queen Elizabeth I in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda. In Don Giovanni, she takes on the demanding role of Donna Anna, who seeks to exact revenge on the infamous rake who has killed her father. British sopranoEmma Bell returns as the lovelorn Donna Elvira and young American mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey adds a new role to her Met repertory as the ingenue Zerlina. Russian tenor Dmitry Korchak makes his Met debut as Anna's patient fiance, Don Ottavio, and Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni returns as Don Giovanni's comic sidekick, Leporello, a role that won him plaudits at the 2011 premiere of this production by Michael Grandage. Czech bass-baritone Adam Plachetka makes his Met debut as Masetto, and veteran James Morris sings the role of the Commendatore, following his triumph as Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg earlier this season. Sets and costume designs are by Christopher Oram, lighting by Paule Constable, and choreography by Ben Wright. At the final performance on March 6, Jennifer Check will sing Donna Elvira, and Ievgen Orlov will sing the Commendatore.

Soloists include soprano DEBORAH SELIG, mezzo-soprano REBECCA RINGLE, tenor CHARLES BLANDY and MATTHEW BURNS, bass-baritone. ANDREW CLARK, Director of Choral Activities at Harvard University and former artistic director of the Providence Singers, conducts.
