Superman, a fictional comic book hero still idolized by young and old, arrived in the production The History of Invulnerability, a play dependent on an overwhelming presence of stage technology and directed by Artistic Director Mark Clements. This historical narrative on how Superman was "born" reflects the mind of his co-creator Jerry Siegel one hour and thirty-six minutes before Siegel died.

The cast features Rep newcomers Bob Amaral, JJ Phillips and Greg Wood, as well as Rep Associate Artists Angela Iannone and Gerard Neugent, Rep Artistic Associate Michael Kroeker, guest actors Kelley Faulkner and Josh Landay, children's cast John Brotherhood, Luke Brotherhood and Max Pink as well as several members of The Rep's Artistic Ensemble. Written by playwright David Bar Katz, The History of Invulnerability will be directed by Rep Artistic Director Mark Clements. The Executive Producer for this production is Judy Hansen.
People's Light & Theatre has announced its 40th Anniversary Season that celebrates the passion and artistry that created and sustained our company. The season includes one world premiere, two regional premieres, and one Philadelphia premiere. Nationally acclaimed artists Mary McDonnell, David Strathairn, and Victor Williams will join longtime company members and various newcomers on our stages. They will perform iconic works by August Wilson, Anton Chekhov, and Neil Simon, new plays by Bruce Graham, Bill Cain, and Jessica Dickey, and our new holiday panto by Pete Pryor and Samantha Bellomo. We will transport audiences to Merlin's Middle Ages, Ranyevskaya's changing Russia, 19th & 21st Century Gettysburg, and Lou's Bar in today's South Philly.
Jon Robin Baitz' Other Desert Cities tells the story of a dysfunctional family with a troubled past. A depressive formerly successful author, Brooke Wyeth returns home to celebrate Christmas with her family after being away for six years. Previously prominent Republicans, Brooke's parents Polly, a powerful society player with impossible standards, and Lyman, a former actor and former U.S. ambassador, are shocked to learn that Brooke's soon-to-be released novel is actually a memoir about the family's history. Add to the mix Brooke's liberal recovering alcoholic aunt and her brother who, though closer in proximity, has still managed to erect a wall between himself and the family, and the reunion becomes a drama-filled event as they all try to come to grips with the past. Loyalties are questioned, secrets are revealed and the story twists and turns as truths come out, further changing the family forever.
