PBS, WETA Announce Documentary Series ASIAN AMERICANS

Today at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, PBS and WETA announced ASIAN AMERICANS, a new five-part documentary series currently in production and expected to broadcast in May 2020 on PBS. The series examines what the 2010 U.S. Census identifies as the fastest growing racial/ethnic group in the United States. Told through individual lives and personal histories, ASIAN AMERICANS explores the impact of this group on the country's past, present, and future.

The Playhouse Youth Company at Bucks County Playhouse will present a one-hour, family-friendly adaptation of the Broadway musical "Shrek, Jr." tailored especially for young audiences. The show will run July 24 - August 3, 2018, on the Bucks County Playhouse stage. There are evening performances on Wednesday, July 24 and Sunday, July 28 at 7:30 pm. Daytime performances are July 25, 26, 27, 30, 31, and August 1, 2 and 3 at 10:30 a.m.

Yesterday, additional casting was announced for the highly anticipated film adaptation of West Side Story from director Steven Spielberg. Paloma Grace-Lee was cast as Graziella, the girlfriend of the Jets' member Riff, who will be played by Dear Evan Hansen's Mike Faist.

Thirty-three nonfiction works from seventeen countries comprise the latest Sundance Institute Documentary Fund and Stories of Change Grantees, announced today. 81% of the supported projects have at least one woman producer or director; 48% originate from outside the US.
MPAC To Present Free Screening Of Acclaimed Documentary INTELLIGENT LIVES

A free screening of INTELLIGENT LIVES, a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Dan Habib, will take place at Mayo Performing Arts Center on Monday, October 22 at 7 pm. Bill T. Jones, MacArthur Genius Award and National Medal of Arts awardee and Artistic Director of New York Live Arts, and Janet Wong, Associate Artistic Director, announced the New York Live Arts' 2018-2019 season today. "We look to artists to reflect, reframe, reimagine, and represent the world to us. We hope that in turn we respond with empathy and, dare we say, compassion," states Bill T. Jones. "New York Live Arts will premiere eight New York and/or world premieres this season including the much anticipated "Y" by Randjelovi?/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist RoseAnne Spradlin," says Janet Wong. Leading the way in premium unscripted content, Bravo Media will expand to seven nights a week of original programming in primetime, and unveiled a diversified slate of 11 new and 20 returning series, it was announced today by Jerry Leo, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy, Lifestyle Networks and Production Bravo. Bravo is the #1 cable network among female viewers in F18-49 and F25-54, leading the industry by at least a +16% advantage, its highest margin ever. In addition, Bravo finished 1Q18 as the #5 ad-supported cable network in P18-49, its highest ranking quarter ever in primetime.
Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision Festival Explores The Role Of The Press Today

Friday, April 20, day two of Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision looks into the role of the press, what it means to be a journalist in an endangered liberal democracy, and what obligations the press has today. Opening the day will be visual artist Huiying B. Chan, who will read words by legendary activist Grace Lee Boggs, followed by author and journalist Moustafa Bayoumi's reading of works by Edward Said and a presentation of speeches by Muhammad Ali read by journalist Greg Tate. The readings will start at 4 pm. Admission is free.
New York Live Arts presents LIVE IDEAS 2018: RADIAL VISION

An annual interdisciplinary humanities festival, Live Ideas is a high point of the New York Live Arts season. This year's festival, Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision, presented April 18-22, 2018, at New York Live Arts, will offer five days of activity designed to imagine the future and understand the past of an open and democratic society. Through public forums, performances, readings, and workshops, the festival will offer a forward-looking, critical appraisal of four key democratic institutions: the press, big tech, the criminal justice system, and our electoral process. Bringing together artists, activists, journalists, and scholars, Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision is co-curated by culture creator Brian Tate, president of The Tate Group, and presented in partnership with the Hannah Arendt Center at Bard College with curatorial input from Roger Berkowitz, the Center's director.
