In present day Los Angeles a grandmother (Angela Paton) tries to motivate her granddaughter Clara (Grace Kaufman) by telling her a story about her youth in Depresion era 1935 Brooklyn/Coney Island. Clara is avoiding the school play by feigning illness and grandma's rich tale of how she first went on stage and found true joy proves an inspiration not only to Clara but to anyone at any age who refuses to stop dreaming.

Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies weaves together nostalgia, music and merriment in the world premiere commission of a new seasonal classic opening at the Geffen Playhouse. Presented by OneWest Bank, Coney Island Christmas, a "Jewish Christmas show" for people of all ages and all faiths, introduces us to Shirley Abramowitz (played by Isabella Acres) a young Jewish girl who, much to her immigrant parents' exasperation, is cast as Jesus in the school's Christmas pageant. Oscar® winner Ms. O'Brien will be at the Saturday, November 7, 2:00 PM and Sunday, November 8, 2:00 PM performances, and will be available at intermission and after the performance to meet audience members and sign photos in support of the non-profit organization, The Southern California Motion Picture Council.

The classic 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis directed by Vincente Minnelli is so revered that to imagine a stage version of equal prominence is... Well, Musical Theatre West's (MTW) impressive reproduction of the 1989 Broadway version is so charmingly rendered, that one forgets the movie, Judy Garland, Margaret O'Brien & company... at least for 2 hours. Not unlike White Christmas on stage, Meet Me in St. Louis captivates its audience with mesmerizing production values and an astounding ensemble.
