An all new SPIDER-MAN spoof will debut at the Blank Theatre Company's 19th Annual Young Playwrights Festival, titled SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE LIGHTS. The show, which is one of twelve productions that will be featured at the four week event, is the brainchild of 17-year old Adam Brodheim from New York City.
First-time playwright Tommy Nohilly seems intent on ramming edgy family dysfunctions in the audience's faces with Blood From A Stone. Unfortunately there's no play underneath to support it all. Director Scott Elliott and The New Group do a heck of a good job covering up the flaws of the text most of the time, but the nearly three hours of animosity and head-banging symbolism can't help looking very silly now and then, despite the skilled ensemble.

The New York Times has announced that Ethan Hawke, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Natasha Lyonne will star in the New Group's Blood From A Stone, the first production of the theater company's 2010-2011 season. Performances begin on December 13, 2010 at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row. The production will run through February 19, 2011.
