SoloChicago Theatre's THE UNFORTUNATES Begins at Theater Wit Today

Following its highly acclaimed inaugural production of Churchill, which played in Chicago, New York City and continues to play in several places around the country, SoloChicago Theatre presents THE UNFORTUNATES by Australian playwright Aoise Stratford. SoloChicago Artistic Director Kurt Johns directs the piece about survival, celebrity, violence and friendship, which begins performances today, June 17 at Theater Wit.

Ciara Renee Joins Cast of MUSEMATCH VII: SONGS FOR SOPHIA at Feinstein's/54 Below

Ciara Renee of the CW's Legends of Tomorrow and Alan Menken/Stephen Schwartz's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and A.J. Shively of Bright Star will join the cast of MuseMatch VII: Songs for Sophia, an evening that seeks to answer the question, 'What happens when 15 composers go on a blind date with 15 singers?,' will be presented Saturday June 18th, 2016 , at 11:30 PM at 54 Below.  Produced by Bill Coyne and Ariel Dobshinsky, all proceeds will benefit Sophia Maglione, an 8-year old girl who is fighting her second bout of Medulloblastoma.

Writers Theatre Extends 'DEATH OF A STREETCAR'

Writers Theatre, under leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a second two-week extension of Death of a Streetcar Named Virginia Woolf: A Parody created by Tim Ryder and Tim Sniffen, written by Tim Sniffen and directed by Stuart Carden and Michael Halberstam. Due to demand, the production now runs through August 14, 2016, as the inaugural production of the Gillian Theatre at Writers Theatre's new theater center at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

Catherine Butterfield's LIFE EXPECTANCY Begins at Hollywood Fringe Today

Catherine Butterfield, author of the plays JOINED AT THE HEAD, THE SLEEPER, LIFE IN THE TREES and BROWNSTONE, among others, premieres her latest comedy, LIFE EXPECTANCY, at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, beginning today, June 10. Second City alum Ron West helms the play.

Peninsula Players Theatre Names Artistic Company for 81st Season

Peninsula Players Theatre, America's Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theatre and Door County's theatrical icon, announces company members for its 81st season, running June 14 through October 16, 2016. The mix of plays include a late-in-life romance, an intriguing whodunit, a raucous pop-rock musical, an engaging Midwest premiere and a wildly comic thriller.

Theatre at the Center Sets Cast of THE ODD COUPLE

?Actors Norm Boucher and George Keating will play the leads in Theatre at the Center's cast for the famous comedy classic The Odd Couple, the 1965 Broadway hit by iconic playwright Neil Simon.   Directed by Larry Wyatt, The Odd Couple runs from July 14 to Aug. 14.   

BWW Interview: Nothing Short of Miraculous: A Conversation with E. Faye Butler

'What they did is nothing short of miraculous! I know because I was there as a friend, a colleague, an artist. I was there in that room as the magic was happening!' Award-winning actress E. Faye Butler is speaking of the Fulton Theatre and Maine State Music Theatre, of her old friends from their Rockford, Illinois days, Marc Robin and Curt Dale Clark, and of the entire creative team and cast of the new chamber music version of the musical Ghost in which she now stars. The Bruce Joel Rubin-Glen Ballard-Dave Stewart show which opens at Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick on Thursday, June 9, is a reprise (and New England premiere) of the newly minted chamber adaptation presented at Lancaster's Fulton Theatre on April 21, 2016, after a year-long development process. One can feel the excitement and electricity in Butler's presence and her comments about this play with music which, she believes has given new life to both the original 1990 Jerry Zucker movie starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, and Whoopi Goldberg and the 2011 stage version. 'E. Faye is a force of nature!' MSMT Managing Director Stephanie Dupal proclaimed when she saw her in the premiere.

Victory Gardens to Host Benefit Peformance of THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT STAND in Support of Chicago Artist Sam Roberson

Victory Gardens Theater will host a special benefit performance of The House That Will Not Stand by Ensemble Playwright Marcus Gardley, directed by VG Artistic Director Chay Yew, in support of Congo Square Theatre's Artistic Director Sam G. Roberson, Jr. on June 18, 2016 at 7:30 pm. Victory Gardens will donate fifty percent of the proceeds from the performance to assist Roberson with housing, food and medical care as he waits for a heart and kidney transplant. The evening will include a pre-show reception starting at 6:30 pm to celebrate Sam followed by the performance at 7:30 pm. Tickets for this performance can be purchased at www.victorygradens.org or by calling the box office at 773.871.3000. Victory Gardens Theater is located at 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue. BWW Review: WORKING Reminds Us We Are More Than Our Jobs

WORKING is based on Studs Terkel's well-known book of interviews with U.S workers, which retells the accounts of men and women and presents the meaning that these jobs bring to their lives. This classic musical was first adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso and premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. The show later ran on Broadway briefly before entering the national regional theatre circuit. The show was updated in 2012 with two new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, and features the classic numbers from artists such as Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, and James Taylor. WORKING runs at Main Street Theatre from May 21 - June 19, 2016. The show, directed by the talented Andrew Ruthven, reflects not only the struggles that we go through as a nation, but hits home on multiple levels with the diverse and hard working citizens of Houston.

Victory Gardens Theater to Offer Series of Free Play Readings This Month

Victory Gardens Theater announces the June lineup for The VG Reading Series. This regularly scheduled program of play readings provides playwrights a platform to develop their plays-in-progress, and will give audiences opportunities to experience exciting new work throughout the year. The Reading Series adds to VG's current programming of world premieres and new plays and the IGNITION Festival of New Plays.

American Theater Company (ATC) opens musical comedy Xanadu, the final production of its Legacy Season, this Sunday, June 5. Presented as a tribute to ATC's late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli-a not-so-secret fan of this camp classic-Xanadu is directed by Lili-Anne Brown and runs at ATC now through July 17, 2016. The production has music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, based on the 1980 Universal Pictures film of the same title.
