Photo Flash: Pegasus Theatre Opens Chicago's 31st Annual Young Playwrights Festival This Weekend

Pegasus Theatre Chicago is proud to announce the authors and plays being presented at the 31st Young Playwrights Festival, Jan. 4 27, 2018 at Pegasus's resident home Chicago Dramatists, 773 N. Aberdeen. Each play is written by high school students and given a staged professional production. The winning productions are performed in tandem Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Previews are Thursday, Jan. 4 Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Press opening is Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18 for students, $25 for seniors and $30 for general admission and are available at PegasusTheatreChicago.org or by phone at 866.811.4111.

Porchlight's New Faces Series Returns to the Skokie Theatre

Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to announce the second production in its 2017 2018 season of Chicago's hit musical revue series, New Faces Sing Broadway 1959, hosted by Gene Weygandt, directed by Adrian Abel Azevedo with music direction by David Fiorello, Monday, Feb. 26 at Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Ave in Skokie at 7:30 p.m. In tribute to the original New Faces series that ran on Broadway and on film from 1934 1968, Porchlight Music Theatre created the Chicago musical revue series, New Faces Sing Broadway as a showcase for the best emerging music talent now performing on Chicago stages.

Chicago Shakespeare SHORT SHAKESPEARE- A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Begins 2/3

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) begins rehearsals for Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream a 75-minute abridgment of William Shakespeare's riotous tale of mismatched love among mischievous fairies, young lovers and an amateur theatrical troupe of local workers. Directed and adapted by Jess McLeod and featuring a power-packed ensemble cast, this production will bring the magic to life for 1,000 students each day in the innovative, new venue The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare during its six-week run. Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed for the public on Saturdays February 3 March 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Children's Theatre Company and Penumbra Theatre Bring THE WIZ to Life

ELLIOT TRILOGY to Play Concurrently in Los Angeles Theatres

Los Angeles audiences will have the rare opportunity to follow Quiara Alegri a Hudes' Elliot Trilogy playing concurrently at theatres across the city in early 2018. Center Theatre Group's production of Pulitzer finalist Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue (at the Kirk Douglas Theatre January 27 through February 25, 2018) and Pulitzer winner Water by the Spoonful (at the Mark Taper Forum January 31 through March 11) will be joined by Latino Theater Company's production of the final installment of the trilogy The Happiest Song Plays Last (at the Los Angeles Theatre Center February 17 through March 19). It is the first time all three plays will run at the same time in one city.

SNL Alum Julia Sweeney to Make Stand-Up Debut at The Second City

Saturday Night Live veteran, author, actor, and TED talk maestro Julia Sweeney will make her stand-up debut this January in a brand new workshop production staged in Judy's Beat Lounge at The Second City. In Julia Sweeney: Older and Wider, the Grammy-nominated comedian hilariously takes on parenting, religion, cancer, feminism and even her iconic androgynous character, SNL's Pat, through a very modern 2018 lens. Audiences will get to see the creative process in action up close and personal for an evening of laughter from one of comedy's most indelible, indestructible voices.
