The Music Center Announces Program for 2017/2018 Dance Season

Los Angeles audiences will discover a new perspective on many timeless classics interpreted through a contemporary lens as they journey through The Music Center's dance season and uncover themes of conflict between female strength and societal expectations.  The 2017/2018 Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center (Dance at The Music Center) season is replete with powerful characters, riveting storylines, modern choreography and theatrics that take the traditional narrative ballet to a new level.  Audiences are invited to venture into the world of dance and experience realms of expression beyond expectation.  The coming season opens with the U.S. premiere of Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes (September 15-October 1, 2017), a beloved fairytale and Hollywood classic where life imitates art, presented by Dance at The Music Center and Center Theatre Group.

The Music Center Expands Programming Reach with Launch of the MUSIC CENTER ON LOCATION

The Music Center today announced the launch of The Music Center On Location, a new initiative that takes the performing arts center's artistic vision beyond the places and spaces of its Downtown Los Angeles home and into diverse venues and locales throughout greater Los Angeles.  With The Music Center On Location, The Music Center will curate and present distinctive artistic content in locations outside its 22-acre campus and bring its innovative, creative approach to the arts to a wider audience.  This program will expand the performing arts center's focus beyond the presentation of the world-class artistic programming it currently offers on the stages of its iconic theatres and outdoor plaza to events and performances outside of its physical footprint.  The Music Center On Location launches this summer with programming at The Ford Theatres (the Ford) and Grand Park, followed by an engagement in the fall at The Culver Studios as part of the performing arts organization's internationally acclaimed Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center series.

Celebration Theatre Present the Third and Final Show in its 2016-2017 Season! CABARET

Celebration Theatre presents under the artistic direction of Michael Matthews & Michael A. Shepperd, the third and final show in its 2016-2017 season, CABARET, book by Joe Masteroff  (based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood), music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, choreography by Janet Roston, musical direction by Anthony Zediker and directed by Michael Matthews.  CABARET will begin previews on Friday, May 26 at 8pm; will open on Friday, June 2 at 8pm and perform through Sunday, July 2 at Celebration Theatre @ the Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave. in Los Angeles.

14 High School Students Named as 2017 Grand Prize Finalists in The Music Center's 29th Annual Spotlight Program

The Music Center named 14 outstanding Southern California high school students as Grand Prize Finalists in the 29th annual The Music Center's Spotlight program (Spotlight), a free nationally recognized scholarship and arts training program for teens.  Two Grand Prize Finalists were named in each of seven categories, including acting, ballet, non-classical dance, classical voice, non-classical voice, classical instrumental and jazz instrumental.  All finalists will receive $5,000 scholarships and appear in a ticketed Grand Finale Performance at The Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall on May 23, 2017, at 7:00 p.m.  Spotlight Grand Prize Finalists were chosen from more than 1,300 Southern California students who auditioned for panels of expert judges.

From incorporating architecture, shapes and patterns into her work, to developing pieces based on veterans' battle experiences, Lang offers a fresh perspective on contemporary dance for the 21st century.
