Ailyn Pérez Will Return Home to Chicago for DON GIOVANNI at Ravinia, 8/14-16

Ailyn Perez, born and bred in Chicago, returns to her hometown's famous Ravinia Festival for two performances (Aug 14 & 16) as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni - a role that the Dallas Morning News has said shows her to be "a singer of considerable nuance." LA Opera Music Director James Conlon leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for the run, which also features baritone Christopher Maltman in the title role, baritone David Bizi? as Leporello, soprano Tamara Wilson as Donna Anna and tenor Saimir Pirgu as Don Ottavio. The Chicago Tribune praised Perez's 2012 appearance at Ravinia, as Pamina in Die Zauberflote, as "show-stopping…all floating pianissimos and diminuendos and delicate pathos, which roused the sold-out crowd to a long, well-deserved ovation."

The Washington National Opera Announces the Roster for the 13th Season of Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced the roster of emerging artists and renowned vocal coaches engaged for the 13th season of its Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. Under the leadership of program director Michael Heaston, the Domingo- Cafritz Young Artist Program continues to increase its number of performances throughout the season and expand its training regimen to include mentorship by its returning Artist in Residence, the acclaimed American soprano Deborah Voigt. Additional faculty members include voice teachers Diana Soviero and William Stone; guest vocal coaches Be?ne?dicte Jourdois, Kathleen Kelly, and Danielle Orlando; career consultants Ken Benson and Matthew Epstein; and guest drama coaches Peter Kazaras and Alan Paul, among others. Jason C. Tramm to Conduct Ocean Grove's Summer Stars Classical Series Finale, 7/31

On Thursday July 31 at 7:30 pm Maestro Jason C. Tramm will conduct the Ocean Grove Summer Stars Classical Series season finale concert at the magnificent 6,500 seat Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, NJ. The concert 'Grand Orchestra and the Great Organ' will feature the 65 member MidAtlantic Opera Orchestra, renowned soloists and rare instruments in a program of masterworks for organ, orchestra and violin. The concert will include Saint-Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A Minor, Charles Marie Widor's Symphony in G Minor, and Horatio Parker's Concerto in E-flat Minor.

Director David McVicar Claims Sydney Opera House Conditions are 'Extreme' to Stage DON GIOVANNI

David McVicar, who is directing a new staging of Don Giovanni, says that the Sydney Opera House's main theatre is inadequate to rehearse. He said: “I think they thought about the outside before they thought about the inside. The problems of the Joan Sutherland [Opera Theatre] are extreme. It's a very quirky space, it is inadequate for opera, it just simply is.”

Lincoln Center Announces Final Week of Programming for 2014 Mostly Mozart Festival , 8/18-23

The 2014 Mostly Mozart Festival, Lincoln Center's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, concludes with eight events in the final week spanning the musical timeline from Baroque to contemporary. Performances on August 19 and 20 kick off the concluding week with renowned violinist Joshua Bell, violist Lawrence Power (Mostly Mozart debut), and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in Mozart's Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola at Avery Fisher Hall. David Zinman conducts the program, which also includes Boyce's Symphony No. 1 and Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 3, 'Eroica.' Both performances offer pre-concert recitals by pianist Igor Kamenz.

Opera San Jose to Open 31st Season with RIGOLETTO, 9/6-21

Opera San Jose opens its 31st season with Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto. This tale of innocence lost and vengeance gone tragically awry will be conducted by Joseph Marcheso, with stage direction by Brad Dalton. Rigoletto will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled from September 6 through 21 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San Jose. Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival 2014 Week Three to Feature Beethoven, Gluck, Handel, Mozart and More

The third week of this summer's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, kicks off with a pair of all-Beethoven concerts by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra leading one of the great works in the classical repertoire, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, August 12 and 13, at Avery Fisher Hall. Conducting this large-scale choral work is Gianandrea Noseda, featured at Mostly Mozart for a second consecutive summer following his debut last summer leading Rossini's Stabat mater. Singers for the performance include soprano Erika Grimaldi (U.S. debut), mezzo-sopranoAnna Maria Chiuri (Mostly Mozart debut), tenor Gregory Kunde, and bass Ildar Abdrazakov (Mostly Mozart debut). TheConcert Chorale of New York, directed by James Bagwell, will accompany the Festival Orchestra and soloists. The Festival Orchestra will also perform Beethoven's Overture to The Consecration of the House, Op. 124, to open the concerts. Additionally, the Amphion String Quartet will perform Barber's String Quartet, No. 11 in a pre-concert recital.

North Carolina Opera Announces its 2014-15 Season

North Carolina Opera's General Director Eric Mitchko and Artistic Director & Principal Conductor Timothy Myers today have announced the details for the company's 2014-15 season. The announcement by Maestro Myers last evening at the company's annual season festive kickoff event at CAM Raleigh included live musical highlights and attracted a large group of patrons and community partners.
