Schimmel Center With The Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra Presents 'The Struggle To Forgive'

Schimmel Center with the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra presents the world premiere of The Struggle to Forgive: Confronting Gun Violence in America on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Led by Music Director and Conductor Gary S. Fagin, the new cantata-which has a libretto by Fagin and features soprano Mikaela Bennett, mezzo-soprano Sarah Heltzel, and baritone Jorell Williams-gives voice to those whose lives have been impacted by gun violence in the United States, including victims and their families.

Shute-Pettaway, Wilds Head Cast of ACT 1's Upcoming Production of THE LITTLE FOXES

Helen Olaketi Mariah Shute-Pettaway, a 2011 First Night Honoree and one of Nashville's most revered actresses, will take on the iconic role of Regina Giddens in the ACT 1 production of Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes. Directed by 2014 First Night Honoree Jeffrey Ellis, senior contributing editor for BroadwayWorld.com, The Little Foxes runs at Darkhorse Theatre May 4-19.

Peak Performances Presents Inbal Oshman's M STABAT MATER

Peak Performances presents M Stabat Mater, a choreographic exploration of motherhood from Inbal Oshman. With a title that encompasses "M," the most common sound in the word for "mother" within languages all over the world, M Stabat Mater probes the joys and sorrows of the experience. Oshman's piece, set to baroque music, explores the vulnerability and tenderness required of mothers, and the strength and ferocity that come with the territory. She borrows from the mythological mothers of history, including the Mary of Christianity, the violent Hindu goddess Kali, and the Four Matriarchs of the Old Testament: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. New York Baroque Incorporated, one of the ensembles responsible for "the fast-growing vitality of the early music scene in New York" (the New York Times), performs Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's 1736 piece Stabat Mater live on period instruments.

Opera Saratoga Announces Complete Casting And Programs For 2018 Summer Festival

Kairos Italy Theater, New York's preeminent Italian Theater Company, and KIT Italia present the 6th Edition of In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY, which will feature a record 12 shows, brought over from Italy to NYC, including a Special Opening Night Event, We are Not Alone starring Dario D'Ambrosi. The 15-day, 5-borough Festival, founded by KIT Artistic Director Laura Caparrotti and KIT Italia Artistic Director Donatella Codonesu, will close with the 5th annual Mario Fratti Awards, created especially for In Scena! to honor excellence in Italian playwriting. HK Phil Presents Songs Of The Earth By Mahler And Ye Xiaogang

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) proudly presents two Songs of the Earth in one programme on 27 & 28 April in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Alongside Mahler's famous settings in a German translation, native Chinese composer, Ye Xiaogang, presents the same seven ancient Chinese poems in their original language.

Playwright Kemp Powers knew he'd found something incredible in the personal recollections of former slaves documented by a federal writers project during the Great Depression. Discovering the different voices and views in those first-person histories inspired him to learn more and write Little Black Shadows, which has its world premiere at South Coast Repertory, April 8-29, on the Julianne Argyros Stage.
