Chief Conductor Mariss Jansons returns with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for two back-to-back concerts this May in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. On Friday, May 4 at 8:00 p.m., the orchestra performs Rossini'sWilliam Tell Overture; Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 19, featuringFrank Peter Zimmermann; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, Op. 55, 'Eroica.' The following evening, Saturday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m., the orchestra and Maestro Jansons perform Mahler's massive Symphony No. 7 in E Minor.

Rafael Payare's highly anticipated inaugural concerts as San Diego Symphony's Music Director Designate take place as part of the annual January Festival. It will mark his only Jacobs Masterworks appearance this season and will feature acclaimed cellist Alisa Weilerstein and the orchestra's first-ever performance of Benjamin Britten's Symphony for Cello and Orchestra. The early music virtuosi of TENET return to Five Boroughs Music Festival (5BMF) this season with The Sounds of Time, an exploration of 12th and 13th century songs by the French trouveres. The program is presented in Queens on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at King Manor Museum and on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Riverdale in the Bronx. Led by guest music director and baroque violin virtuoso Robert Mealy, the program showcases the great lyric tradition of the troubadours, who adapted the musical forms invented by their Provencal counterparts and infused them with a lighter vein that produced a memorably tuneful body of music.
