San Francisco Opera today announced program details for the upcoming Placido Domingo concert on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 2 p.m. The legendary artist returns to the War Memorial Opera House with Puerto Rican soprano Ana Maria Martinez, Mexican tenor Arturo Chacon-Cruz and the San Francisco Opera Orchestra conducted by Spanish conductor Jordi Bernacer for this sold-out performance of operatic scenes from Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata and Simon Boccanegra, along with arias and duets from Spanish zarzuelas.

Conductor Jeremie Rhorer, founder of Le Cercle de l'Harmonie, makes his debut London Philharmonic Orchestra debut at Royal Festival Hall on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Rhorer will conduct two monumental choral works: Carl Orff's canonic Carmina Burana and Francis Poulenc's rarely-heard Stabat Mater. Rhorer will lead the London Philharmonic Orchestra and London Philharmonic Choir as well as a trio of accomplished vocalists: soprano Louise Adler, tenor Toby Spencer, and baritone Simon Keenlyside.

In November 2018 the opera house is presenting Z mrtveho domu (From the House of the Dead), the Czech composer's last and perhaps most powerful opera. It is based on Dostoyevsky's semi-autobiographical novel Memoirs from the House of the Dead (1862), an account of the Russian writer's own experiences as a political prisoner in a Siberian gulag. It is a mosaic of loosely-knit episodes about the inhumane conditions in a labour camp, punctuated with the stories and life histories of his fellow prisoners.

Monday evening, November 12, 2018, 8 p.m., The New York Choral Society and Orchestra (NYCHORAL) will present its first program of the season, MY SHADOW AND MY LIGHT, under the baton of Music Director David Hayes at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. In honor of Veterans Day and in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, Maestro Hayes has chosen a program that explores how three early 20th-century composers, two British and one American, created works expressing their deeply personal reactions to these profound moments in human history.

New Repertory Theatre presents So Deep is the Night: An Evening of Song with Ute Gfrerer, a cabaret-style concert for one night only, Monday, October 29, 2018 at 7:30pm. The Metropolitan Opera presents the North American premiere of Marnie, an original Met commission by composer Nico Muhly and librettist Nicholas Wright, on October 19, 2018, with performances continuing until November 10. Based on Winston Graham's haunting novel, which also inspired the classic Alfred Hitchcock film, Marnie is conducted by Robert Spano in his Met debut and directed by Michael Mayer, who created the staging for the opera's world premiere at English National Opera in 2017. The November 10 matinee will be transmitted live to movie theaters throughout the world as part of the Met's Live in HD series.

On November 11, 2018, at 22 concerts around the world, 100 works by Polish composers will be performed to mark the 100th anniversary of Polish independence. “100 for 100: Musical Decades of Freedom,” presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York, and PWM Edition, features the season-opening concert of the Oratorio Society of New York, at Carnegie Hall that Sunday at 2:00 pm.
