Photo Flash: The Old Globe Presents THE WHIPPING MAN

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the cast and creative team for the West Coast Premiere of Matthew Lopez's The Whipping Man. The Civil War drama is directed by Giovanna Sardelli and will run in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre through June 13. Opening night is May 13 at 8:00 p.m. Single tickets are currently on sale andcan be purchased online at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE or by visiting the Box Office.

Performance schedules for the three world-premiere Mentor Project plays have been announced by the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.), where the new plays STRAY by Ruth McKee, THE BELLE OF BELFAST by Nate Rufus Edelman and PATERNITY by Winter Miller will be performed this spring from March 16 to May 29.

Matthew Lopez Named Old Globe Playwright-In-Residence

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced that Matthew Lopez has been named Playwright-in-Residence. The two-year residency includes a commission for a new play. Lopez will also take part in the Globe's education outreach and audience development activities. His plays include Zoey's Perfect Wedding, Reverberation and Tio Pepe, which was presented at The Public Theater as part of the 2008 Summer Play Festival.

Review - Wildflower: Racing With The Plot

I suppose the cocktail conversation among certain factions of the Off-Broadway community this summer will be centered around whether the ending of Lila Rose Kaplan's Wildflower a) thoroughly ruined the play, b) logically brought all the play's diverse pieces together or c) was just another example of the evening's well-intentioned flaws. I lean toward the latter.
