The 78th season of summer stock theater along the shores of Green Bay opens in Juen when the Peninsula Players raises the curtain on 'Saloon' by Terry Twyman. Summer stock theaters sprang up in the early decades of the 20th century in empty barns, old mills and haylofts across the country. They became venues for movie studio producers to scope out new talent.

The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Foundation presents Musical Theatre Guild's GIRL CRAZY in the Janet & Ray Scherr Forum Theatre at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2013. This performance will conclude the Musical Theatre Guild's 17th season.

Two titans of jazz piano are captured in flight on the new Resonance Records album, 'Tommy Flanagan/Jaki Byard: The Magic of 2.' Scheduled for April 9 release as a CD with 24-page booklet, a digital download with digital booklet, and a deluxe limited edition 2-LP set, 'The Magic of 2' presents a 1980 concert recorded at San Francisco's celebrated Keystone Korner and the second entry in Resonance's Keystone Discoveries series.

Happy Birthday Carol Channing! She is the recipient of three Tony Awards (including one for lifetime achievement), a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Channing is best remembered for originating, on Broadway, the musical-comedy roles of bombshell Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and matchmaking widow Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly! She also appeared in two New York revivals of Hello, Dolly!, and toured with it extensively throughout the United States. Channing also appeared in a number of movies, The First Traveling Sales Lady (1956) with Ginger Rogers, the cult film Skidoo and Thoroughly Modern Millie, opposite Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore.

A couple's road trip transforms their relationship. A country bumpkin leaves the family farm for the peacetime Air Force, much to the dismay of his new sergeant. A missionary and his bride travel to Hawaii to spread their Christian beliefs. An American dancer goes to London and falls in love. Stories of relationships and travel make up Reel13's featured classics in February.

On Saturday January 12 and Sunday January 13 internationally renowned Cabaret pianist/singer Steve Ross, who has been called the 'Crown Prince of Cabaret', brought one of his many evenings of song The Music of Fred Astaire called Puttin' On the Ritz to Vitello's Upstairs in Studio City. Ross began his career, some forty years ago, primarily as a pianist, at Ted Hook's Backstage in New York. With no singing experience, he thrust himself into the spotlight singing at the piano, developing his unmatched, uncanny style of song and repartee... and the rest is history.
