'HAIR' - The rock musical that sparked a revolution and ignited a generation is back! All the original hits and new songs rediscovered from the original production - all played live by The Tribe, lending the show raw energy and immediacy. This new production returns to its rebellious and provocative roots! Although initially performed in 1967, the universal themes of individuality, experimentation and acceptance in the face of oppression are just as resonant today.

With music by Galt MacDermot and book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, HAIR has been around for years. It's been around long enough to earn a Tony win for best revival, and take that revival on a tour. Wavestage's production of HAIR channeled everything audiences have come to know and love of the iconic show.

Hair - The American Tribal Love Rock Musical became one of my favorite shows when I saw the Tony winning revival in 2009 and then again in 2010. With that, one may have an unconscious hesitation when a local production of your favorite show is being mounted. No one should have that attitude and let me tell you, the cast at Soluna Studio in Hauppauge surely did not disappoint.

Now, 45 years later, Serenbe Playhouse, along with director Brian Clowdus, brings the story to life outdoors in a beautiful, vast Wildflower Meadow as they transport us back in time and remind us of the relevance it's message has today.

Today in 2011, the return engagement of the second Broadway revival of HAIR opened at the St. James Theatre, where it ran for 67 performances. Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is a rock musical with a book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. A product of the hippie counter-culture and sexual revolution of the 1960s, several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. Hair tells the story of the 'tribe', a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the 'Age of Aquarius' living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War.
