Chamber Music Monterey Bay's 47th Season Features World Premiere by George Tsontakis, Beg. Tonight

The Juilliard String Quartet concert tonight, October 26th will offer up a few 'firsts' for concert-goers to Chamber Music Monterey Bay's (CMMB) 47th season opener. The season marks the inaugural one for the Quartet's new violist Roger Tapping who replaces longtime violist Samuel Rhodes. Rhodes performed his farewell concert with the Quartet at July's Ravinia Festival in Illinois. Another 'first' will be the West Coast premiere of Jesse Jones' commissioned work for the Juilliard: String Quartet No. 3, 'Whereof man cannot speak...' Rounding out the program will be Haydn and Beethoven.

PCPA to Present MARY POPPINS, 11/7-12/22

Fresh from Broadway, PCPA will be one of the first regional theatres in the nation to produce Mary Poppins, the magical high-flying family-musical that is perfect for this holiday season. It plays November 7 - December 22, 2013 in the newly renovated Marian Theatre.

The Stowe Theater Guild's delightful presentation of the beloved Gilbert & Sullivan classic, THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, is now playing at the Town Hall Theatre in Stowe, Vermont. The story opens as Frederic (James Blanchard) is released from his apprenticeship to a band of pirates notorious for their kindness to orphans. Having never seen a young woman before, Frederic is enchanted by the daughters of Major-General Stanley (George Walker), particularly Mabel (Taryn Noelle). But Major-General Stanley and the Pirate King (Patrick Clow) don't see eye to eye, and Frederic and Mabel's love isn't smooth sailing. Mayhem and hilarity ensue as Frederic's childhood nurse, Ruth (Sebastian Ryder) reveals one surprising secret after another.

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance welcomes back the internationally renowned Sphinx Virtuosi (formerly known as the Sphinx Chamber Orchestra) and the Catalyst Quartet, joined by celebrated mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves tonight, October 1, 2013 at 7:30 pm. This one-time collaboration between Ms. Graves and Sphinx can only be seen at the Harris.

Fiddler is a celebration of life and its challenges. Trying to balance life - like a fiddler on a roof - Tevye attempts to hold onto his traditions despite sweeping social change that is upsetting his family values while threatening his town's very existence.

PCPA Prepares for the 2013 Summer Season

PCPA Theaterfest's upcoming 2013 Summer Season - which runs from June 13 through September 29 - features an effervescent assortment of theatrical experiences including musicals, comedies and penetrating drama. With the Marian Theatre in the midst of renovations, the Severson Theatre will be the primary Santa Maria venue for two productions, while Solvang will host two transferring shows and two productions which will play exclusively in the outdoor Festival Theater.
