San Francisco Playhouse (Artistic Director Bill English and Producing Director Susi Damilano) launches the New Year with the West Coast's first production of Jerusalem, Jez Butterworth's epic Tony and Olivier award-winning play. Bill English directs and Brian Dykstra* stars in the role of Johnny 'Rooster' Byron. The production also features Julia Belanoff, Joe Estlack, Richard James*, Riley Krull, Maggie Mason, Ian Scott McGregor*, Aaron Murphy, Paris Hunter Paul*, Chris Reber*, Joshua Schell, Devon Simpson, and Courtney Walsh.
Renowned in the region for their productions of gay-themed works, Mauckingbird Theatre Company begins their 2014 season with a down-to-earth look at first love in their production of Beautiful Thing by English playwright Jonathan Harvey. The play, which was described as an "endearing, lopsided smile of a comedy about a boy who falls for the boy next door" by The New York Times, will run January 15 - February 2 in the Skybox at the Adrienne.
On December 2nd, Believe Theatrical will host the first public reading of Rebecca Gilman's screenplay adaptation of Blue Surge at the Pater Jay Sharp Theater, 416 West 42nd Street. Michael Walker (Price Check) will direct the stellar NYC cast to be led by Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) and to include Jayce Bartok (The Cake Eaters), Phil Burke (Hell on Wheels) and Kate White (Fall to Rise), Autumn Dornfeld (Law & Order), Katy Wright-Mead (The Knick) and Patrick James Lynch (Peter & The Star Catcher) among others.
The Donmar Warehouse is preparing to transfer both of its critically acclaimed Conor McPherson productions, The Night Alive and The Weir, within the next two months. The Night Alive will make its American premiere at The Atlantic Theater off-Broadway on the 30 November 2013, with The Weir opening at Wyndham's Theatre in the West End on the 16 January 2014.

Australia's best known and most prolific playwright, David Williamson takes on the greatest media mogul of all time in the world premiere of Rupert which opens on Thursday 29 August 2013 at Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse, directed by Lee Lewis. On Tuesday 16 July the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, visited the Donmar Warehouse where he enjoyed an evening performance of The Night Alive, the latest play from Irish playwright Conor McPherson. After the production the President met the cast and crew of the production backstage before having his photo taken on the stage of one of London's leading producing theatres.
According to the Daily Mail, Josie Rourke's Donmar Warehouse production of Conor McPherson's THE WEIR will be transferring to Wyndham's Theatre in the West End, beginning January 16, 2014, for a January 22nd opening. The show stars Risteard Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O'Hanlon.
Nick Payne won last year's Evening Standard Award for Best New Play for Constellations. John Crowley returns to the Donmar to direct Payne's witty and incisive new play.
