A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, continues its 2014-2015 REVOLUTIONary season with The Dance of Death by August Strindberg in a new adaptation by Irish playwright Conor McPherson, which opens on Saturday, October 18and runs through Sunday, November 23, 2014. Directed by Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, this is the West Coast premiere of the new McPherson adaptation, which had its U.S. premiere earlier this year in Chicago. In 2007, Ben Brantley of the New York Times called McPherson "quite possibly the finest playwright of his generation." Anna Mackmin returns to direct Amelia Bullmore's funny and insightful comedy about female friendship. Henry Wishcamper directs a cast featuring ensemble members Francis Guinan and Tim Hopper with Helen Sadler, Dan Waller and M. Emmet Walsh. The world premiere of The Night Alive was produced at London's Donmar Warehouse in 2013. The Night Alive begins previews September 18, 2014 (opening night is September 28; press performances are September 27 at 3pm and September 30 at 7:30pm) and runs through November 16, 2014 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).

Renowned in the region for their productions of gay-themed works, Mauckingbird Theatre Company begins their 2014 season with a down-to-earth look at first love in their production of Beautiful Thing by English playwright Jonathan Harvey.
