Dallas Opera to Premiere New Terrence McNally Opera, GREAT SCOTT, 10/30

            DALLAS, OCTOBER 2, 2015 – The Dallas Opera is proud to present one of the most eagerly anticipated new operas of the year: Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally's GREAT SCOTT, featuring a once-in-a-lifetime cast headed by America's favorite mezzo-soprano, Joyce DiDonato, in the title role of Arden Scott; also starring soprano Ailyn Pérez, mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, baritone Nathan Gunn, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, bass Kevin Burdette, tenor Rodell Rosel and baritone Michael Mayes.

North Carolina Opera Co-Commisions COLD MOUNTAIN, Presented by Santa Fe Opera, Tonight

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina Opera has joined the consortium co-commissioning and co-producing the new opera COLD MOUNTAIN, with music by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon and libretto by the renowned Gene Scheer. Based on Charles Frazier's wildly successful 1997 novel COLD MOUNTAIN (which sold over four million copies and won the National Book Award for fiction) this North Carolina story tells of the long journey homeward of Confederate soldier Inman to his love, Ada.

Opera Paralléle Premieres New Season with DEAD MAN WALKING This Weekend

Acclaimed contemporary opera company Opera Parallèle will open its 2015 season with the premiere of a new production of Jake Heggie's landmark work Dead Man Walking-marking the 15th anniversary of one of the most widely performed operas of the 21st century-in three performances this weekend, February 20 and 21, 2015 at 8 pm and February 22, 2015 at 2 pm at YBCA Theater in San Francisco.

Devan and Jack Mulroney Music Director Corrado Rovarisannounced today, the carefully curated 2015-2016 lineup offers two new American operas: the East Coast Premiere of Cold Mountain, by composer Jennifer Higdon and librettist Gene Scheer and starring the dream team of Nathan Gunn, Isabel Leonard, and Jay Hunter Morris (February 2016); and the World Premiere of ANDY: A Popera, a Warhol-inspired opera-cabaret featuring a score by Dan Visconti and original songs by Heath Allen (September 2015).

DALLAS, FEBRUARY 9, 2015 – Working to address a long-standing career issue in the opera world, The Dallas Opera is delighted to announce the launch of a unique, new residential program designed to provide training and career support for distinctively talented women conductors. Female conductors age forty and younger, as well as accomplished women singers, opera coaches and accompanists, and instrumentalists with established careers seeking a new career at the podium, are encouraged to apply.

The Dallas Opera is extremely proud to present the third production in its 2014-2015 'Heights of Passion' Season, an unusual double bill: the eagerly anticipated world premiere of EVEREST -- the first opera by renowned British composer Joby Talbot with a superb libretto by Gene Scheer (Moby-Dick) -- preceded by the climactic final act of an 1892 opera rarity: Alfredo Catalani's LA WALLY (Act IV) set in the Tyrolean Alps. Opening night will take place tonight, January 30, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Dallas Opera's LA WALLY Announces Cast Changes

DALLAS, TX, JANUARY 19, 2015 – The Dallas Opera is announcing cast changes for the company's upcoming new production of Alfredo Catalani's LA WALLY(Act IV). Mexican tenor Rodrigo Garciarroyo will perform the leading role of Giuseppe Hagenbach on January 30 (opening night), February 1 and 4, 2015. Tenor Arnold Rawls will sing the role for the final performance scheduled on February 7, 2015. The singers are assuming the role after Carl Tanner recently withdrew, due to illness.

Chicago Opera Theater (COT) presents two special Viewpoint events in conjunction with the Chicago Premiere of Tobias Picker's “Thérèse Raquin” February 20-28, 2015 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance (205 E. Randolph Street). Chicago Opera Theater's production of “Thérèse Raquin” will be conducted by COT's General Director Andreas Mitisek and directed veteran opera director Ken Cazan. With a sensual score that mirrors the lovers' turbulent affair, this tale of torrid romance and scandal features a libretto by critically-acclaimed writer Gene Scheer.
